Brendan Rodgers is set to become the new Liverpool manager in the next 24 hours, if compensation is agreed, Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed.
Rodgers, who exactly one year ago to the day won the Championship play-off final to reach the Premier League with Swansea, is expected to sign a three-year deal at Anfield.
Liverpool are expected to pay Swansea between £4 million and £5 million in compensation after securing the Northern Irishman's services.
Swansea chief Jenkins said: "I was contacted by Liverpool [on Tuesday] night and they expressed their wish to speak to Brendan regarding their vacancy.
"I had a discussion with Brendan to talk about their interest and his views on whether he wanted to speak to Liverpool. He expressed his wish with me to do that and he has spoken with Liverpool today.
"Following discussions with Liverpool's owners Brendan has informed us that he would like to take up their offer to manage Liverpool. At the moment we are currently in talks with the owners to agree compensation. We are trying to finalise that within the next 24 hours.
"Although we are very disappointed to lose such a talented, young British manager we did not wish to stand in his way."
"As always at Swansea City, we want people working here who are fully committed to the task ahead. We wish Brendan every success in the future. We will always remain good friends and we thank him for all his hard work and passion at this football club over the past two years.
"We shall now refocus and quickly start the process of finding his replacement to continue the great work Brendan has carried out at this football club."
Rodgers guided Swansea, the first Welsh side to play in the Premier League, to an 11th-place finish after being promoted through the play-offs in 2011. It was not only this record but the attractive passing style that the Swans played with on their top flight debut that impressed Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
Rodgers succeeds Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish as manager after the Scot was sacked on May 16. Winning the League Cup and reaching the FA Cup final did not mitigate an eighth-placed finish in the league, 17 points adrift of the Champions League places.
Dalglish's last match in charge was a 1-0 defeat by Swansea, capping an impressive first top flight campaign for Rodgers. The 39-year-old was quickly in the frame to take over at Anfield, but initially declined the opportunity to talk with FSG.
Liverpool instead turned their attention to Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, with chairman Dave Whelan at one point suggesting he had been offered the job.
Both Liverpool and Martinez denied agreeing any deal, with the Reds insisting that they were keen to approach Rodgers, Martinez's successor at Swansea.
It remains to be seen exactly what system Rodgers will work under at Anfield as American owners FSG were keen to split the workload of former director of football Damien Comolli, who was sacked in April.
Dutchman Louis van Gaal emerged as the leading candidate to take a sporting director role but it is known both Martinez and Rodgers had expressed a desire to have greater control of footballing affairs.
With their manager almost in place Henry and chairman Tom Werner, who will attended the Premier League's chairmen's meeting on Thursday, have to decide whether that structure can still work.

Thank god they chose a manager. Judging from the amount of managers they are interviewing, i dont know when they would ned up with a manager.
I like what brenden rodgers did to swansea. Lets wait and see if he can bring us to the next lvl.

Very difficult to get Managers with the criteria Fenway Sport Group wanted:
1) Young and Successful 2) League and European Cup Winners 3) and etc..
Only few will qualify and those that have the critieria will go for the prestigious clubs- the Reds has dropped in status in the last decade.
Rodgers could be the answer. He has the knowledge in the English league, coach and train the Swans to play efficient, possession and beautiful football. Liverpool FC with the current players could yield results under him. Maybe, recruit a good central defender (replacement for Carragher) and a good right winger will help.

would be interesting to see how brendan rodgers respond to the expectation that comes with the anfield hot seat as liverpool is expected to do better than they did this year and he succeded at swansea coz the expectation was just to stay up and to finish 11th is an achievement. liverpool will be expected to win something...there lies the key difference
i'm not saying that he is a bad manager but when it comes to managing a big club like liverpool..its a whole new ball game.
anyway...looking forward to seeing rodgers have a go at it and hopefully bring the glory days back to anfield.

Watch this dude!
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Could be the answer to the Reds lack of creativity and prowess in front goal and the final 1/3. He could operate in the "hole" just behind Saurez and Caroll. Will be a very good Stevie G's replacement.

What about the 'returners'? Namely Joe Cole Aquilani
I think they can fit into Brendan Rodgers style of play.

Aquilani was a Benitez acquisition and an overpriced one in my opinion. Joe Cole, now he is a different story, so much talent in him just needs the right management style to bring the best out of him. BR might be the guy. Having said that if BR does not produce results in his first few matches in the league, folks are gonna be baying for his blood. Lets give the bloke a chance though. YNWA!

IMHO, I don't think we should be selling / loaning out a 23 year old Andy Carroll and getting in a 29 year old Clint Dempsey.
Andy is still young and developing. I think Brendan should try and work with him for at least 1/2 a year until January. Then if he still cannot get anything out of him, then consider selling or loaning him out.
Dempsey is old and we have a young Suarez and Borini who can pretty much do everything he can. Unless he is willing to sit on the bench as a backup to those two (not likely since he is a key player in the Fulham setup).
What we need now is cover for the defensive mid position as well as a back up left back. Up front, we are very strong already.

It appears that Andy Caroll will not fit into the BR's Tiki Taka football program. This require all the players to participate in the pitch divided into seven zones where mobility, skill + creativity and fitness are key to the success of the system. The ball will be played mostly on the deck.
Agree that we should give him an opportunity to work with this system and not off load for cheap. Based on what we have seen (of Andy) and his attributes, it will be an uphill task for him.
There are a lot of enquiries for him in the transfer market but, insofar, nothing is concrete.

Andy Carroll was a knee jerk purchase. I'll probably say the same for Jordan Henderson, and Stewart Downing.
Combined, they cost us way too much money than what they're worth. 2 wrongs don't make one right. Persisting with players who suck and dragging the team down the table is just not on for a proud club like LFC.
Sure, give em another 6 months, I hope to be proven wrong. I always like Clint Dempsey as a player. Go get Demba Ba if LFC is courageous, he won't cost GBP35m.

Andy Carroll was bought because Torres wanted to go. His price is inflated due to the urgency of the purchase and also tagged to Torres fee minus $15mil. So if Torres went for $30mil, Andy would have cost $15mil.
Anyway, in the later 1/2 of last season, we have seen Andy playing with better form and showing the player that he can be. His touch and link up play is good. He can provide us with the different option in attack. He occupies the opposition central defenders attention and can allow Suarez and Borini to roam and find space in behind the defence.
Henderson has been played out of position for most of last season. I believe he is the type of player that can excel in Brendan Rodger's system. His first touch, short passing, recycler type of play really fits into BR's playing philosophy.
For me, its Stewart Downing and Charlie Adams who I would ask if they are suitable and up to the mark. If we can get decent fees for them, then let them go.

Agree with Falcon on his views on downing and Adams. To me downing is an utter waste of money. No pace, cannot dribble and as we have seen last season, no assist. How to be winger like tat? and adams was bought to replace Xabi Alonso. I honestly do not know where this comparison came from. Charlie Adams, was crap. Liverpool's downfall came about when they sold Marsarano and Alonso. The Marsherano-Alonso-errard midfield was really to core of everything good in the last liverpool era.
To me, what liverpool lacked was someone who can take the ball 40-50m from our half to opponent's half. We do not have that and thats y we find it hard to counter. Our wingers are slow, and thats y we cannot transition from defence to attack effectively.

To be fair, i think we need to give Adams a chance, still new and injured for many games
Fergie once said, Adams setpieces/corners was worth the price Pool paid Blackpool, but then again that could be mind games
both Javier and Alonso wanted to go, so no choice, Lucas L was starting to become a gem until he got injured and Adam was the next best option at a reasonable price to cover Alonso distribution
Downing and Jordan are shit lah, i guess Pool needed to help "develop" some UK talent for Euro 2012 or since they are English club, must retain some UK players other that Carra and Gerard or Glen
Looking back in 2012, the woodwork and missing a ton of penalties did it for us

Jordan Henderson was asked to play many roles to fill in the gaps. He looks like a raw gem that needs to be polished if his role if defined. Brendan Rogers is the right guy to do just that. Downing ah...hem, nothing good to say.

BTW, selling Alonso was the beginning of the downward spiral-ling of Liverpool. Great player. Bad mistake Liverpool
