| Genesis, the easiest way is to do a video analysis. Go ask your coach to do a slow-mo
My advise to see a coach is due to the fact that our swing is not perfect and the obvious mistake we spot are often compensatory action for the 9 other mistakes in our swing. Fixing the obvious may screw up your swing so much that you give up golf. Best to get a coach

- thanks everyone for the inputs.. think i found the problem today:
1) Standing too near 2) nvr release my hand on impact
cheers! 1) For me, for mid to short irons, I would prefer to stand close so that I can stack against the ball on impact. It gives me fantastic power and straightness of the shot. Just look at Tiger Woods, see how close he stands when addressing the ball. My hands hang right below my chin when addressing the ball is what I normally do. 2) When I used my hip to drive the ball on coming down at the ball fast & hard, the tremendous centrifugal force generated would by default release & straighten my hands. If you want to hit long distance, you need to create lots of lag on coming down at the ball. To do this, initiate your downswing with your lower torso and make sure your hands are leading the clubhead.

Don't really understand 1) chin under ball.... that's about 2 inches away from the toe? Will I hit my toe? Or one must have a longer chin that protrude out? 2) Hip to drive the ball.... not the club head meh? Do you mind post some of your picture/video to show us how you execute no 1) & no 2)?

My apology, it should be my hands under my chin when addressing the ball. When I said using my hip to drive at the ball meaning I initiate the starting of the downswing with my lower torso and my hands remain passive. In other words, you turn hard at the ball, the shoulder and then the arms, the club will follow in sequence.

the birds always say i release too early I told you liao, don't see too much Japanese AV, now you have early release problem! According to study, early release can be caused by temporary depression, stress over financial matters, unrealistic expectations about performance, a history of sexual repression, or an overall lack of confidence. Don't know which is your cause leh

| Jimmychoo is forever young Can the videos of S70B swinging his iron be slo-mo-ed? I think I can see a late release, no casting and lots of lag..but he swings to fast..all blur | |

| I realise that most swings with late release are very compact. Am i correct? | |

| Agreed. Compact when coming down (at the "slot", right elbow tuck in etc). Can be wide going back though, i think.... | |

| I wonder whether there is excessive analysis of the swing such that it takes the fun out of the sport?
Seriously, all that effort to get from 130m to 140m?

TS, if its not your idea of fun then why stop people from doing what they think is fun lor (analysing swing etc)....i think half the threads is fun, i mean the OT ones I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't stopping anyone from doing anything. What I meant is sometimes, just hitting the golf ball is fun and by trying too hard to get the additional distance, the game becomes less fun (you end up getting frustrated, exhausted etc.) It may be too much work for too little gain. But then again, that's just a thought... and like other things here, a thought is sometimes the start of the road to OTness.
