I think "swing easy" always give a wrong perception, at least for me. Swing easy has always been a question for me. Cos if it means slowing down the swing speed, then I will not get the distance that is suppose to be achieve on the long iron. Long irons can be practise my shortening your back swing and like what you say on pt 4 and 5, maintain tempo and hitting the sweet spot. Without the proper impact on the ball, there is no way the ball will take off on a long iron. next time, try this... tell yourself its a 9 iron while you are hitting a 6 iron. Sometimes the problem likes in the mind rather than the swing. I agree with you about the term "swing easy" I think it should be that you swing as fast as you would with the shorter irons... the tendency for us is that we try to swing faster/harder as the club gets longer... Guess this is the mentality because we expect the ball to travel further with the longer club so we "help" it by swing faster....

on impact or on takeaway? not everyone has the smooth swaying legs like you.... during takeaway lah ... I have weak knees, that's why my left knee collapse during backswing ... Got to be specific mah... if not, people might just follow and you will see clubs flying at driving ranges. Then they will say a long hitter in the forum teach one.... then he they cannot achieve what you say, they might say you are buaya, trying to spoil their swing.

| D, ZX and even Duffy is wrong model for you. Their game is GIR.
You should model after bro Golfool, grandmaster TSS or master SBH.

I need to play with my swing twin to see how I am swinging My 7 iron is probably the longest iron I am comfortable hitting...used to be 150m but these days, it's 150 yards (similar to what Rex said)....

| Lets not forget, there is no benchmark distance for any irons... everybody is different. So doesnt mean if you are bigger than someone, or taller than someone, you should be hitting longer than that person... Keep practising, and if you guys really want to improve in the game like my you-know-who... look for a proper coach to get things sstraighten out....Time and efforts will pay off...

Clubs I'm using - TM Burner TP 2010 with NSPRO 950gh stiff Garylin, you might want to check this http://golf.about.com/od/beginners/l/blclubdistance.htm , as ong you're within that range, you should be fine. It is better to understand what is each of your irons distance, you can offset the distance by choosing the iron where you're comfortable with the distance, think of not forcing your swing, usually easy swing and follow thru help. When you're on the course, it's important to have course management also.

| Actually, ask yourself:
Do you want to hit your irons far or do you want to hit your irons close?
If you are trying to be a top class individual aiming to be competitive with the big boys, I will agree that having distance is a huge advantage and a very impt feature.
However, if your target is to break 100/90/80 at a golf course, then I can tell you that your distances are what the average Singaporean male will be hitting judging by all the different ppl I have played with.
Hitting it further does not guarantee you to be closer to the pin. However, to squeeze every inch out of your potential, learn to find what is your fastest comfortable tempo. That tempo will be one where you constantly make solid contact with the fastest speed where you do not swing out of your shoes and lose balance.
I agree with duffy about the wrong notion hearing it all too often from ppl telling their buddies to swing easy. Many people when you tell them to swing faster or harder will expend most of their energy on their upswings. I guess the proper thing to say will be to slow down the backswing and unleash the downswing. There's no way your ball is going anywhere close to 150m by swinging it easy (unless you are built like Arnold Schwarz).
Also for irons, learn to hit down instead of flipping at the ball. Many people add loft at impact and 2 causes are trying to help the ball up in the air and swinging your arms faster and your body failing to catch up.
My swing thought to get max distance is when I am holding an 8 iron, I will 'think' of delofting it to a 7 iron at impact and try to hit it over the green. Of course, I do not hit it over the green all the time la but it helps me get pin high most of the time.
Trust me, I broke 80 the 1st time as a teen hitting 7 irons 130m and driving max 210m. Distance is not everything but it will improve as you find the sweet spot more often.

Duffy, beri steady! I hit about 135m. No complaints and not obsessed with getting more distance out of my swing. Instead more focus now on finding out my consistent flight path from those repeatable swings that I do so that I can be more accurate in where I want the ball to land. Along the way, you will improve and perhaps get some tips from fellow golfer (e.g. Duffy) that may help you to attain more distance.

| i agree with Rex and Duffy... hitting it far doesn't do you much good... i play my 7i to 150m carry now and i'm a great deal more consistent and shooting slightly improved scores as when i forced my 7i to 180... so if your 7i plays to 130m, stick with it... | |
