The two Leaders are not very far from the rest of the pack ... Therefore anyone in the +4 or better may stand a chance as one will never know what will happen in the final round as the course is very brutal & unforgiving. We cannot even rule out Tiger Woods at this juncture ... This kinda course requires a lot on luck as well ...

Very positive thinking from Tiger ... Here is what he said after his lacklustre 3rd round ...

“It's just patience. It's just a few birdies here and there. It's not like where you have to go out there and shoot 62 and 63,” Woods said. “This is a U.S. Open. You just need to hang around because anything can happen at the last three holes. . . . I'm definitely still in the ball game. I'm only five back and that's certainly doable on this golf course for sure.”

Poor tiger. Crumbling today. Now at +8...

Tiger's game with the new swing is not yet able to pass the test under pressure. He played the gauntlet holes 1-6 at +6 in the final day.

Reduced the damage with a birdie at hole 8.

And then par until hole 13 so far, +5 for the day, +9 and T31 for the tournament.

Basically, since losing his touch in day 3, and not recovering it in day 4, he is out of contention. The swing and touch under pressure need more work to hold up for 4 days of a major.

Meanwhile, Furyk is doing well, having made just 1 bogey in the critical hole 1-6 compared with McDowell who made 3 bogeys there.

Furyk in the lead at even.

Tiger makes a rare birdie at hole 14, +8. Putts are beginning to drop, albeit too late.

Furyk just has to focus on safe play, make pars, and let the others try to catch him and make mistakes by becoming too aggressive.

Yes, a pure test of true all round skills, completeness of game and ability to keep it together under tremendous pressure. No particular style has any advantage in this set up. Accuracy, distance and touch are all equally important.

At hole 12, after an errant tee shot drawing to the left rough, Furyk finds himself in the right greenside bunker with bad slope and no shot. He will likely drop a shot.

Out of the bunker, Furyk aims away from the tricky hole and has a long putt left.

And somehow, Furyk makes the long par putt. Wow.

Looks like the US Open is fated to be Furyk's with putts against the odds going in like this.

Not to be outdone, McDowell makes his long putt as well, but for birdie, and he pulls back up to within 1 shot of the leader.

With another birdie at 17th, Tiger finishes +3 for the day, +7 for the tournament, and T21.

3 birdies, 4 bogeys, and 1 double bogey at the par 3 hole 3.
