Jim's 7 iron and Tiger's 6 iron both find the green past the flag which is cut in front today.

Tiger is putting from miles away downhill and shows delicate touch to lag it close. Should be par.

Likewise Jim.

Nope, Tiger misreads the short uphill putt and drops another shot.

The slower course today has taken away Tiger's edge over the field. Unless Tiger adjusts fast, he will drop a couple slots in the leaderboard today and will have to make up for it on day 4.

Yeah, when they watered the greens last night in preparation for the hotter weather this weekend, the greens and fairways got softer and slower.

Tiger and several others have difficulty adjusting after 2 days of super fast and hard greens while some took advantage of the softer conditions to catch up at the top.

Hole 9 Par 4 434

Furyk's tee shot lands on the left side of the fairway and rolls to rough, ball seems to be sitting up.

Tiger, feeling the pressure to catch up after all those bogeys, takes a risk with driver and tries to cut. It did not cut enough and Tiger is in deep rough left of the fairway. He may yet drop another shot here if his risk does not pay off.

Jim finds the front lip of the green, should be able to make par.

Tiger from that cabbage patch somehow hits a low shot that runs up toward the green, passing the pin for a downhill putt.

And somehow the risk paid off with a birdie. Maybe Tiger should hit the rough more often? Laughing

From fairway, he can bogey. From rough, he can birdie.... I think his mind needs the challenge to sharpen up.

Hole 10 par 4 436 dogleg right.

Tiger driver again, since he birdied with driver the previous hole. He cuts it nicely around the dogleg.

Jim does not cut enough, left 2nd cut. The rough has a 2-level graduated cut.

And... Tiger birdies!

That putt was a mean downhill left to right curling break. Tiger just barely touched the ball and it took off.

If Tiger has finally figured out the slower green speed and fairway today and is adjusting his touch and course management strategy accordingly, then the rest of the course should prove interesting.

Hole 11 par 4 420.

Tiger's cut driver heads into the left rough. Lets see if my theory holds and see if Tiger can get it close to the pin from the rough.

Furyk finds fairway without problem.

Hole 10 par 4 436 dogleg right.

Tiger driver again, since he birdied with driver the previous hole. He cuts it nicely around the dogleg.

Jim does not cut enough, left 1st cut.

Tiger on fairway and Furyk on slight rough ... Hope can birdies this hole 10 like yesterday ...

And Jim gets it closer to the pin from the rough than Tiger from the fairway.

See what I mean? Tiger maybe should hit from the rough more often...

Hole 11 par 4 420.

Tiger's cut driver heads into the left rough. Lets see if my theory holds and see if Tiger can get it close to the pin from the rough.

Furyk finds fairway without problem.

Nope. 127 yards to the pin, Tiger lands a bit short below the green while Furyk finds the green pin high.
