You really should be Miura's spokesman in M'sia and S'pore. hahaha
Nice looking wedge. I have no doubt that the feel will be buttery soft, having tried one Miura wedge before.

| Hi All,
Great to read all the discussions in this forum. As you can see, I'm a newbie on GR...first day today.
I have been using a set of Miura Giken irons (Passing Point 9001 - Japan domestic model) for the past year now. Before that, I had 2 sets of Mizunos: the MP 23 which I later upgraded to the MP 25.

| HI Lee, just curious what is your swing speed since you use the Project X 6.0 ? I had been thinking of using a heavier shaft on my MP58. Currently its fitted with KBS Tour 90. Any advice ?
Cheers !

A clubfitter is the best person to answer your questions. But since you asked, here's what I know. The 6.0 is aimed at a swing speed of 90 - 95 mph with 6 iron. That's a guideline. Other factors include your swing transition, i.e. how hard you go at the ball. For a smooth swing, you can use a lighter shaft. For a more 'violent' swing (faster transition) you can use a heavier shaft. Seems my swing is quite violent as I focus on snapping through impact, so I use a heavier shaft. I swing at 85 - 90 mph w 6 iron, and the Project X 6.0 can feel a touch 'soft' at impact sometimes; my clubfitter is scratching his head already. KBS Tour 90 is light and has good feel. A Project X will feel heavier and stiffer, perhaps even harsher to some people; it's a low torque shaft. Regardless of what shaft you opt for, the main thing is to get the shaft that fits your swing. I can't give any advice unless I know your swing speed, and swing tempo. What is your swing speed in the 6iron or in the driver? How far do you hit them now?

My first impression when I took the wedges to the practice green was a slight disappointment. The Vokey seemed to create more spin, esp in short chips. Dispersion was tighter too. I had a hard time controlling the Miura wedge. Then I took it back to Absolut and had the swing weight reduced to be the same as the Vokey, D8 instead of E0. That made it noticeably better. I spent 3 hours at the practice green getting to know the wedges better. That's when they started to grow on me. The ingenuity is in the feedback. It allows you to 'feel the shot' long after the ball has gone. The vibration, correction, the musical note of the impact on the head goes up the shaft and into your hands and arms as the ball flies to its landing spot. This allows you to rapidly obtain a feel for the wedges, making it very PREDICTABLE. Today, another session at the chipping green. I put the Vokey and Miura wedges in a chipping shoot out, 10 balls each to the pin about 33 ft away, with a circle about 8-ft in diameter (1-putt zone). Vokey, 6/10 in the circle. Miura, 7/10, but the Miura was more convincing than the number indicated. One of the 7 was in the cup. And dispersion was tighter too. The Miura wedge is beginning to feel very good in my hands. More photos to follow soon.

Just came back from the range, trying out the PW, 8i and 6i gingerly.
In a word, WOW.
Allow me to settle down, get my very late dinner, and I'll elaborate. The article on these baby blades likens the experience of hitting a ball flush with these clubs as being akin to some sort of spiritual/religious high.
I now know what they mean.
I hit a couple of flush shots just now which just lit up every single cell in my brain. I just went "Whooo hooo!" and wanted to jump up and down at my hitting bay. How often in our adult lives do we go through something that makes us want to do that? It's been a while for me.
Wow..... Mr Katsuhiro Miura, now I know why they call you Hands of God. I salute you Miura-san. Guys, Thank you for following this thread. Many of you asked me to update on the progress and how they perform on the course. I have yet to take them to a course, but have taken baby steps in that direction. Today, instead of hitting them off the mat, I took about some balls to the grass at the edge of the driving range and tried out the 7 iron. In my post above, I thought hitting them in the sweet spot off the mat was great, right? I was wrong. That does not even come close to the feeling of hitting them off grass. That's where the small blade head and the Project X shaft became a singularity at the moment of impact. A little burst of energy transfer that fires all the dopamine receptors in my brain. In other words, it's gives you and ADDICTIVE high. A few balls later, I checked the face to see if I scratched it. Nope, just a small green ring of grass juice right on the sweet spot. It washed right off when I cleaned the club. The comments I read about PX being harsh, diluting the feel of this clubhead, after today, I fail to see what they are talking about. The shaft felt DELICIOUS. The small blade head, SUBLIME. The few balls I hit off the grass today completely surpassed the feeling of buttery-soft impact I got when I tried the Tournament Blade previously. Small blade rules! Man, why did I WAIT all this time to put them in play? Thank you for reading, now if you'll excuse me, I must go kick myself.

Hi Golf-mass. I don't understand the first part of your quesiton; I am using the 1957 Limited Edition baby blade, and from what I've been told, the production run has stopped. Although, you might still find some remaining stock somewhere. Not sure whether these are any different from the regular Miura baby blades, apart from the additional logo and a certificate. My take, if long irons are a struggle, they would be a struggle with any set. The solution, simply practice long irons until they are easy to hit. My heartiest congrats on your choice of Miura. Both the tournament blade and the baby blade are excellent. From my perspective, and of course it would be a biased one, here's what I wrote in another forum. - Lee36328 wrote:
- When I had a chance to try the tournament blade some time back, I flushed some shots, and it was like the ball was not even there. That soft buttery feel I had with the tournament blade was the benchmark against which I measure all clubs. That sweet spot impact feel was forever etched in my brain.
Today, that spot in my brain has been permanently overwritten with a much stronger signal - the feel of baby blades in PX6.0 off grass.
The tournament blade was buttery smooth. The baby blade packed more of a solid punch. Whichever you decide, I am absolutely positive you will enjoy them. If you force my hand, I'd recommend the baby blades. Just to make your choice 'easier' , I am also planning in the near future to acquire the Limited Edition Black Tournament Blades, which is the same as tournament blades, except they are in black. They are just sooo good, small or big, satin or black. Enjoy your shopping!

I wonder for the black miura, is that the black oxide treatment done on the head ?
Would there be rust eventually after sometime ?
I have a black satin wedge which develop rust after about 6 months.

I have a black satin wedge which develop rust after about 6 months. golf_snowman, Hitting off grass is quite different because the bottom layer is soft, compared with hard mat, which is unyielding beyond the inital thin layer. So, you can really swing through the ball, compressing it nicely in the grass, without getting a nasty impact collision as with hard carpet. And you can attack the ball with a steeper angle of attack, which on carpet is somewhat limited before your wrists start to hurt. Also, I find carpet encourages a shallow angle of attack, which I only found out when I check Trackman. I'm at around -1.5 ro -2 deg, ideally, it should be around -4 deg for 6 iron. As for your question on rust, my Miura wedges started showing some signs of rust after just 2 sessions at the practice green (it was raining however.) Easy to scrub off with brush and water. The wedges are designed to rust, to help bite and spin, like FD448 said. For the Miura Limited Edition Black Forged Blades, here's writeup on how the black surface will age. "The LFBB finish is the same as on Miura's Black Wedges. Like the wedges, these irons will show gradual, desirable wear with repeated use. But "wear" doesn't mean "wear out." Instead, it's more like a breaking in, a personalization no different than the one that occurs with your favorite baseball glove or the skates you want in the games that matter. This personalized settling-in of the finish will differ slightly for every player. But in general, the black finish will mature over time to a silvery gray, mostly on the center of the clubface and on the sole, starting at the leading edge. Time in the sun enters into it, as well as the turf the golfer usually encounters. In the end, the Limited Forged Black Blades will be distinctively Miura, and distinctively each golfer's own - and always a joy to look at as well as play. " Unlike the wedges however, I don't think it will rust (I will check and confirm this however.) The black will "wear" and "break in" according to how often you use it, and the conditions under which you use it. After hitting the 7 iron off grass, I rinsed the face with water and wipe dry, and you can't even tell it's been used. The head is more durable than I thought.

My bad. I checked with the official supplier whether the black forged blades will rust or not, and this is the reply. "Yes. It will rust. This offers the softest impact feel. But constant coating of sword oil will keep it looking good. " So, I stand corrected. Basically got to maintain it like a sword. Regular cleaning and coating with oil.

| Just got back from driving range, hit from P to 5 than the wedges 52, 56. I got some problems hitting the irons 5 & 6. Somehow the ball fly straight than right? There's some dent marks on the sole of the 56 wedge, I use it very often on sand n short chip. The metal is very soft. Have to becareful not to hit any stones or rocks. But who cares right? Think too much n you will spoilt the game..... Haha | |

Yes, the black oxide will eventually rust and usually oil is need to keep moisture (one of the component of rust) away from in contact with the metal surface to prevent rust. Well some like rust, belive that it will add more spin, but personally, rust to me is like virus to human being...haha !!! then again, that's me....haha !! once i manage to hit some balls on the grass, will definitely update that on my blade thread...stay tuned !!

| The rust doesn't increase spin. That's a myth.
Pros use raw irons particularly the wedges because they want maximum feel.
Raw irons rust nicely overseas and leaves behind a nice copperish hue but the high humidity here in SEA will make these clubs look more like a KTM railway bridge.
If u want to use raw irons, prepare to have a dirty bag.

| That got me wondering why cast Vokey wedges (as opposed to raw steel wedges) also rust.
I've been told we can use blue gun paste to restore the black finish; it's used on guns to keep it shiny and black.
The feel of the black wedges seems to help with my short game touch. The assessment of ball flight distance for partial shots are now better than before. I also find it easier to land chips closer to the chosen spots.
If it helps me reduce a couple of strokes per game, I suppose I won't mind the rust.
Just so long as the rust stays away from the baby blades.
