DGman wrote:
getting the right loft starts from more than a few factors:

1. the clubhead design - CG and crown weighting
2. offset and face angle (open, square or closed)

then you got to match the loft of the desired head to your clubhead speed and the flex of your shaft.

anyone who is using a 9.5 with a 85 mph clubhead speed is not optimising his/her drive. but then again you got to measure the true loft of your driver. alot of drivers out there are 12 degree masquerading as 9.5.

the relationship is if you are not swinging close to the 95 mph range, a 10.5 is far more suitable for your drives but maybe not for your ego.

DGman

Think need to pay DGman a visit soon.. my 9.5 Krank still giving high ball flight

Actually, whatever loft is stamped on the head is irrelavent. You need to get on a launch monitor and whichever driver you hit that launches at the optimum angle (somewhere in the range of 11-14* depending on your clubhead speed and spin rate) is the ideal loft for you. For some people that driver may have an 8* stamped on the head and for others it may need to be 12*.

There is no right or wrong answer to your question until you get on that launch monitor

An 85 mph club head speed will never get you 250m on a normal situation.

Base on very general calculation, just multiply your club head speed by 2.35 will get you the distance.

So 85 mph : 85 x 2.35 = 199.75 yards

Take note this is just very general one hor! Cool

Bro JC, where did you get the 2.35 multiplier from?

Bro Tech, I don't have a master to explain that, I only know is..... some smash factor multiply by cosine angle plus don't know what factor = 2.35 'APPROXIMATED'

Oh, I forgot to include the 'carry' in front of the distance.

sorry it was blurted out without being too technical, but like you said, normal situation...in golf how often do you get normal situation, there's uneven lie, tail wind, head wind, cross wind, buggy track, monkey, crocodile, "lost ball but found in jungle 300m away from tee box",etc etc

But Eiji, thats the point.

Do you play for your normal carry distances or hope for the 'uncertainty' of downhill lie kicks, tail wind, buggy track bounces, monkey etc?

JC is rite. About 85 for about 200yds is thereabouts all you can try to pump out. Wanna hit longer u just gotta learn how to achieve more clubhead speed.

At 90mph with a smash factor of about 1.4, my max carry is 180m on the trackman after trying various lofts, shafts, etc....i've learned to live with it as the body is too inflexible, the mind too stubborn and the talent too lacking, to try and generate more clubhead speed.....

now i look like i'm trying to f**k a fat chick in a phone booth...and i am fine with that....

Lemme add this before I head for my bleddy exams.

A few times, I have hit it past the 300yd mark when all the conditions are right (tailwind, hard fairways and the right kick off a knoll) but with my 103-105mph SS, I still average 245yds(225M) AT BEST in terms of carry.

I will not go about with the notion that I drive it 300yds.

Which goes to my point of most golfers. They think they hit a career 7 iron once at 150m or so they will tell themselves thats their average. I hear it all the time when ppl go for their fitting then when the Trackman shows otherwise that its a good 15-20m shorter, they question the calibration and accuracy of that piece of equipment.

Do you honestly think a clubfitter will spend 5 figures worth on data equipment that is not accurate and wanna malu you?

Are you one of these golfers? Just analyse your own game. Do you more often than not, come up short on your approach shots (decent strikes) or carry the green most of the time? I seldom meet golfers who underestimate themselves.

Thats why golfers and fishermen have alot in common.

Before I change my irons, I was short many many times.

Now I change irons, I 50% times over......

Key learning: Change iron, must re-calibrate.....if not then be like me, after 8 holes, then realized......by then 8 down liao...

I personally witness one fitting session...
FItter: What is your average 7 iron distance?
Golfer: Around 155m, but lets put it 150m which is the distance i want.
Fitter: Ok, go ahead and hit a few...
Golfer: After a few shots..... Hmmm, i think the trackman is inaccurate, or maybe i was tired from the golf session i had in SENTOSA (he said it quite loud).

(I took a peep at the numbers..... Carry 121m, total distance 125m..... Razz)
