64 degrees Wedge Empty
PostSubject: 64 degrees Wedge   64 degrees Wedge I_icon_minitimeFri Jun 19, 2009 5:04 pm

Recently found a very old dunlop utility wedge (64 degrees) in the storeroom.

Tried chipping with it a few times and found it easier to do so compared to my 56 degrees TM wedge. Doesn't roll as much as well

Any particular reason why I should not use it for chips around 10-20m?

Sorry if this is a noob question.

It requires more practice and precision; that's one of the biggest reason.

Depends on your skill level bro.

Its very easy to slide directly under the ball and not move it anywhere in thick fluffy grass. Also, it requires a longer swing to hit short shots which might not be for everyone.

Rolling is also more predictable than stopping a ball. I found that to play higher spin shots from non-fairway/fringe lengths of grass, sometimes it drops dead, sometimes it rolls alittle bit more than I want and sometimes it just shoots out so its always easier to play it lower and run.

Of course, its also great for those deep bunkers in MBGCC.

Elbry, 56 is more than sufficient to get you around with 10-30m chips. Anything above that is going to much much harder to use. I have a 60 wedge, i find it hard to control and decided to use it as sand instead.

Thanks for the feedback bros.

S70B pointed out something i didn't realised might happen, sweep under the ball and not move anywhere in high/fluffy grass area. hehe.

I thought a 64 is easier to use as I was topping the ball less as compared to when using my 56.

If i remember correctly, Feel Wedge has a 73* loft. You can probably take out your ear if you take a full swing at it. Laughing

Here it is: http://www.feelwedges.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=21

Never liked their weird grip too.

hehehe. I wouldn't want to use a wedge that has a high risk of swinging and seeing the golf ball come right at my face Scary!

I think 58˚ is the most I'll go. 60˚ is tough to play and 64˚ is definitely going to be problematic... perhaps when I'm better with the sport.

I have a 60 wedge that have mid bounce, thinking trimming the base of the wedge for lower bounce. Is this a good idea?

Hmm, when does one use a 56 and when does one use a 60?

Beginner = 56 and Pro = 60?

how to be more accurate than your "old ginger" type of putting... but i agree with u.. the 60 degree wedge is indeed a killer from the scoring zone.. so far i have managed to put it to good use, but still have trouble using it from the bunkers though.

Double hitting using a wedge sux as it counts two strokes, even though it was a single intended swing at the ball, especially while trying getting out of a greenside bunker at MBGC.

Sad

I only use my 60 wedge for chipping. not very good at it but used to it so I'm able to predict how much roll it will have, and I prefer more air time and less roll. I dun chip with any other clubs coz I dunno where the ball will go.

bottomline, practise more with the club and you will hit it well.
