| I am still in the dilema.
I have figured that I can do...
1. simple document/spreadsheet editing... 2. presentation (perfect tool actually for one-to-one presentation) 3. mails can synchronize with my MBP. folders and all... 4. twitter is available! 5. MSN is available!
but... i still want to know...
1. is wi-fi hotspot connection troublesome? 2. Does active wi-fi connection take priority over wireless data connection? 3. can it replace a blackberry?
any active ipad users out there?

yes but please buy a docking keyboard or bluetooth keyboard But should note this is not a laptop replacement but rather something else 2. presentation (perfect tool actually for one-to-one presentation) yes, office app. lots more options now 3. mails can synchronize with my MBP. folders and all... Yes can sync. no problem. 4. twitter is available! YES 5. MSN is available! best right? :p

1. is wi-fi hotspot connection troublesome? not at all. 2. Does active wi-fi connection take priority over wireless data connection? Yes, I was told. No need to be told. It is. the same principle as iPhone. I have both. 3. can it replace a blackberry? Nope. it is a pull not a push.. hence if pull too often, batt will die If you intend to get it to get pushed emails, this is not, this is more complimentary. A good analogy is that is TT a good replacement for A6? Maybe, but it shouldnt be compared like this.
I can tell you what I do with my iPad other than games. It is a: 1. eBook reader 2. Watch my own movie when my wife is hogging the TV or I just want watch it in the toilet 3. I load lots of documents in it as reference so that I dun have to carry all of them in files
I enjoyed using it but it is not going to replace my MacBook and neither my iPhone. Hope this helps "emergency" surfing tool to find stuff. Read my

| Somehow u gotta admit that for a company that has "nothing" they r SUPER successful in their marketing. I.E it doesn't matter whether u need an ipad or not. Its more of a matter of whether u HAVE ipad or not.

any active ipad users out there? Got my iPad back in June, and it's been great as a notebook replacement for content consumption on the go. 1. WiFi hotspot connection is same as iPhone - no issues connecting to Wireless@SG hotspots around SG when I was back in SG in July 2. Yes 3. depends - If you're connected to your office MS Exchange server, you can use the in-built Mail for Exchange Activesync client (same as iPhone) to get push email. Works fine with my Gmail for push as well, but since iOS4 is not yet available on the iPad, you can only have one Activesync connection set-up. Still, I set up my Gmail for pull every 10 minutes since I have push Gmail on my Nexus One Android phone. Hotmail and Yahoo mail work just fine too. Think of the iPad as a large iPhone 3GS running OS 3.1.2. It gets the job done for me, and I don't need a dedicated Facebook app since Safari renders the whole page just fine. YouTube experience is also impressive since the screen makes watching videos on the go that much more enjoyable. Since I have managed to set up a US account on Amazon, I've also been able to buy Kindle books, and they are easily half the price of what you pay at Borders, and the nice thing about Kindle over iBooks is the fact that they have clients for Android, iPhone, PC, Mac and iPad, which means that I can continue from where I left off on my Android phone or computer after putting the book down on the iPad. Recently bought Hank Haney's book on the Essentials of the swing, as well as Unplayable, the book about Tiger's life after the 'incident', all good reads, and cost me just a fraction of what I pay for it at brick and mortar bookstores. My iPad also functions mostly as a newsreader on the go. I usually sync up my Google Reader RSS feeds using Reeder and Pulse, and then read them at my convenience. The nice thing about buying apps via the App Store is that the app you buy for the iPhone is usually also available on the iPad and you don't need to pay twice - I have Reeder, Twittelator and other useful apps on both my iPhone as well as my iPad, so more value for money there

| I got mine earlier this week and quite like it. It's useful if you are on the move (e.g. in the MRT, waiting in line somewhere or just hanging around in airport lounges) and/or if you need a device which serves as a large-screen iPod Touch (i.e. an iPhone without a phone function). I can see myself using the iPad to: - email - read news - read eBooks - use it as an educational device for the boy (they have quite fancy teaching apps) - play games - take notes etc during meetings - access social apps like FB though they don't have a native FB iPad app atm - watch movies (I've got a quite a few thanks to iTunes) - play music though I think I'm more likely to rely on my iPod/iPhone for this purpose - have it double up as a digital picture frame I don't see it replacing my mobile phone or notebook though. So you need to bear that in mind. While it's a great mobile device, it is not a notebook. | |

| What do you do with a blackberry? If you use it strictly for e-mails, then it's a replacement. But, if you also use your blackberry for voice and sms, then it won't do. Also, you can't tuck your iPad into your pants pocket. It's mobile, but not that mobile | |

I am just receipient of these decisions........so I need just need a phone for time being..

| i know. i would not mind switching back to one of those simple phones for phone usage..
i used to reply on the push functions alot... nowadays, even with push.. i also just get to my mails when i have the time to... figured that i can simply 'pull' the mails when i need them.
only prob is that I cannot bring BBM over to the iPad, but i think MSN can replace just fine.

Yes it does push the email but only using active sync.
I use the iPad mainly for web surfing and gaming. And also occationally for fast access to emails and contact that are kept in my mail.
This has infact has not replaced my office laptop yet. And I can catch the PGA live on iPad too.

And I can catch the PGA live on iPad too. are you using the PGA app or are you watching it live from http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship/2010/multimedia/video/live/pga/player.html? The iPad is not a phone, therefore I don't see it as a BB replacement. i still have a smartphone for calls, SMS, email, web, etc, but instead of lugging my Macbook with me everywhere, I use the iPad now, which does most of what I need to do on the go anyway
