| Not really.....you see, I save money on equipment with longer renewal time window and avoid range...so that I can afford green fees..
but then again, expensive is a relative term...for 140SGD for a 5 hour game , that is is like less than 30SGD per game......way cheaper than if go ' sing song '

| Anyone into timepieces? That IS expensive. End of day, it is all relative. I am not saying golf is a cheaper sport/hobby than, say, jogging. Of course golf cost more than jogging. Like all things, do within our means. But I guess most folks here enjoy the game to see beyond dollars and sense (pun intended) | |

| It is the most expensive hobby of mine thus far compared to table tennis, badminton, soccer, computer games, etc...
I have spent approximately in 2 years - Equipment (clubs+bag): $750. - Accessories (balls, shoes, tees): $200 - Range balls: $500 - Games: $1500-2000 Total: ~$4000 Monthly: ~$170
For those who play more than once a month, sure lose count.

| 5 hours a week of golf is enough to satisfy most ppl (plus a few hrs/week surfing the net about golf). 5 hrs of computer gaming per week is peanuts (more like 5 hrs on Sat, 5 hrs on Sun, 1-2 hrs on weekdays). | |

| golf can be cheap, buy a wii and play that tiger woods game at home, coaching can be cheap too, get the leadbitter coaching software for wii.
whether you will enjoy it is another matter.
to make a fair comparison, golf is not really that expensive in our region, its not cheap, but not expensive, in the US or Australia, public courses are cheaper but of course, the conditions of the golf course are not as well maintained or have the scenery or designs of the more established and private courses.
golf as a sport/hobby has more potential for making you rich by making social connections, networking, closing business deals than any other sport. so i don't think golf is expensive if you don't want it to be.
but like most things in life, its very subjective and depends on your point of view. to a millionaire golf is not that expensive unless he plays high stakes per game, to a lower income worker, golf would of course be term more expensive, this is relative to their wealth, but golf has become more of a sport that is accessible as oppose to the game that the rich and famous can play only, there's still some sports which i think falls into that category, i think Polo is one of them, even wakeboarding is expensive 80bucks an hr even when shared can rack up 120-160 for a day of wakeboarding fun.

How much have you invested in the sport already? Too much! and I don't think it will stop anytime soon ... In any case, I was talking to my uncle several weeks ago on Golf, at least it is more affordable now as compared to 20 years ago. New golf sets are more affordable, used sets are more available and better quality, you have options to purchase locally, oveseas or through the internet. There are public courses and driving ranges, and if you don't mind travelling into JB, many affordable courses there. We also have forums now, video tips off the internet, lots of information about equipment, rules, technique, tips ... etc We have access to good fitters who carry a wide range of product for all skill and budget levels, and kakis to talk shop with. Overall, we are much more fortunate to be picking up the game now as compared to 20 or even 10 years ago. That being said, all this "big picture" talk still does not take away the pain when having to pay the credit card bill for all the purchases and games ... For myself, I actually cut down my drinking by 90% when I started Golfing, so saved quite a fair bit of money at the start when it was basically practising at the driving range. However, all that went to pieces after I starting playing games and getting more itchy with equipment. On the bright side, at least my liver is happier ...

| think wisely when purchasing equipments... secondhand clubs can save you a bundle too, the same goes to golf balls.
Invest wisely on golf membership (clubs)... especially in land scarce Singapore. End of the day... you gain back what you lose

| I have to add that ppl staying in Singapore are really blessed to have Malaysia courses to play on. Can you imagine trying to pick up golf in Korea or Japan ?! I hear the green fees are expensive and if im not mistaken most of the courses are member courses. So on a side note I hope that any of my fellow Singaporeans tht go in and "ya ya papaya" (which from what i've noticed is aplenty) maybe showing some humility and appreciation could go a long way ? | |

| My friend warned me that golf if you become addicted is going to burn a hole in your pocket. Esp new stuff comes out like equipment you will tend to go look and before you know it, you bought sonething. Mayb an accessory or such. Even things like brollies. 80+ for a brolly o.o | |
