| There are only 4 points of entry if you guys are travelling into CONUS via SQ. - New York - Houston - LAX - SFO Of these 4, I have not come in thru SFO but in order of strictness: - LAX - New York - Houston Houston didn't bother to check my golf bag. Food products, although a no-no esp meat can be brought in as long as its vacuum sealed or packed. I had cleared customs with my collection of Prima Taste and even sealed Bee Cheng Hang Bak Kua with no issues. As a recommendation, birng a lousy used golf bag cos the selections are vast here for the big brands so you will be very tempted to change. | |

| Thanks S70. Am flying in through SFO.
Am bringing a lousy bag, so I can buy a new one. But it seems to me its not exactly cheap. Been checking out the online stores, but not at all cheap.
Will try the factory outlets, so hopefully I can get a cheap and good bag!

I would go further to recommend not to bring a golf set but just go buy an entirely new set altogether... the temptations are too strong, especially if it could be your first and last time in US. With those kind of prices for on-sale items, heck, buy a few extra for your mates back here

| You can easily do research by checking out prices on the stores' website. Try golfsmith.com, tgw.com, dick's sporting goods, golf galaxy, etc. These are standard retail price, you'll see that they're already cheaper than SG prices. There are of course store discounts during sale periods, not the mention the amazing choices in those big golf stores.
In LA area, there's Golf Smith and Roger Dunn, plus a few well stocked korean-owned stores in Korea town.
If you're there for long, then do consider ebay.
Have fun in LA. | |

| tks for the info. BTW any courses to recommend to play in LA? I came across Lost Canyons its a public course about 1 hr from west hollywood. but mixed reviews. wonder if there are any other courses worth going? originally wanted to play at torrey pines while in San Diego, but schedule did not permit this.....boo hooo | |

| limvw, Lost Canyons is a very challenging course and demands accuracy, otherwise ball will be lost easily once you can't find fairway with your tee shot. Around anaheim area, courses like anahiem hill G.C./black gold G.C/ or even Robinson Ranch G.C is good. If you tee off after 2pm or 3pm the green fees is around US$34+, which is less than half of normal price. In San Diego you should play at Mount Woodson G.C. A very nice and mature course.
If you are planning to buy new bag, do bring old bag that you wants to throw away and buy new ones back. Generally bags and apparels are cheaper there. Major brands like Nike, addidas, oakley, Ogio, are much cheaper there. Take note that equipment there are of US specs. Some of the models and designs there are not available here and that makes the difference.
Try not to place expensive items in your check-in luagage if you are returning through LA airport. My recent trip in April, I lost 3 coach bag, a bottle of perfume which I bought for my wife. Found out items missing after returning home. A friend of mine lost a digital camera as well. Trouble is, you can't lock your luagage when travelling in and out of US. This is their security requirement. Lucky, all my golf items purchases safe in golf bag.
Have a nice trip, you will enjoy the greens there, and happy shopping.

this is worrying. I intend to shop quite a bit....tks for the tip....has anyone else had the same experience? should I squeeze all valuable shopping into my carryon?

| Ya. got stuff stolen from the check in bag before. ..
And recently my mum got the itouch i gave her stolen as well. She had it in a small pouch which she placed in yet another bag and then in the luggage. Just the pouch with the itouch got taken. So yes, they do literally go thru the bags.
I dunno how.. but they do.So just be wary..
If its possible to put it in your carry-on, pls do. Thats what I do nowadays... just tell myself anything in my check in is gonna get stolen. *haha. Weird yes. but it saves me the heartbreak if it does get stolen...
