| Relentless rise in COE premiums Wed, Apr 07, 2010 AsiaOne
By Tony Ng
FRENZIED activity characterised the first Certificate of Entitlement (COE) open bidding for April, also the first bidding where the much-talked about supply cut takes effect.
Premiums rose by as much as 26 per cent for all COE categories.
A piece of Cat A COE, used for small cars of 1,600cc and below, now cost $34,001, up by 19.8 per cent.
Similarly a Cat B COE would now cost $45,501, a 26 per cent rise from its last price.
Premium for the open category closed shy of the $50,000 mark, at $49,000. This was a 16.7 per cent increase.
Premiums for commercial vehicles and motorcycles weren't let off either. Both went up to finish at $36,551 and $1,221 respectively.

| Sometimes, I really pity the next generation here..... not only with COE up driving cars to be out of reach for most of them BUT only prices of housing is going up.... Those who dreams of owning a car and a nice apartment will be driven away .... maybe migrate to Aussie land... Or those who works here in the next generation will have to work and work and work more trying to pay off instalments for cars and housing.... | |

| Singapore everything expensive but slow 1) public transport price rising but standard not rising (as in bus and MRT frequency) 2) COE rising 3) Housing rising 4) Medical cost rising 5) Cost of food rising 6) Utility rising
But all these stuff increase except for 1 thing, our SALARY...........
Hmm.. think migrate and work other places is not a bad idea. Suggest to my kid next time to consider working overseas when he is still young then decide where he want to stay? here or there? haha

| And the garmen still ask us to have more children. HOW TO?
Can't support each other already still want to support more mouths?!
Now you want to put your child into a school also must volunteer for x-number of hours.
This is getting ridonkulous!

| something to ponder....
I once know a boss....his mentality of his workers is to ensure that they strive for the best meaning...commit to 5Cs (at least).....then with the high operating expense by each of them......his workers have no choice but to listen and submit to him.....
This is in the private sector....so does not imply anything else.

| Dun think hv to worry, usually after the craze is over, the price will stablise.. if continue to go up, the next recession will hit us even earlier and worse.
Sometimes they try to accelerate the progress so much that it backfire.
Company income tax was lower to attract investors (supposed to be our saviours) but when US and Europe was hit badly we suffer from it as well.... the tree drop the monkeys scattered...
next employment rate drop...
I think we can get ready for another hit soon if we move too fast

| I seriously think the garment wants to create a big debt hole for all the sillipore citizens. Once all of us are in the debt hole, we have no choice but to listen to the garment and work our butt off.
Look at housing. Its so unbelievably high and yet the garment says its ok. Its still affordable. I actually wonder whether these ministers like Mah Bow Tan actually stayed in one before.
Do you know that Singaporean wages is actually one of the lowest in Asia, if you compare it with out GDP? A person in Sillipore usually earns about 30% less than a person doing the same job in say, HK. All these dispite the fact the inflation is getting higher by the year and the garment is toying with increasing GST.

| I am considering this:
SELL my car now and put it in SMRT shares.
Look at the bright side, this is the only place in the world where you can buy a car and sell it 2-3 years later for a profit. Another 1st in the world, well done silypore.

| I don't understand WHY they cheapened car prices over the last 3 years, and now suddenly tighten the quota because the roads are congested..? Singapore is an island leh. How hard is it for LTA to monitor the car population?? | |

| Big challenge to play golf without car, unless your kakis will collect you or the course has a frequent shuttle service like Warren or OCC. Still you have to make it to the pick-up point with the golfbag, a big challenge for senior citizens or even youngsters below 12 or 13.
I wonder why MBGC would not provide better shuttle access, afterall NTUC runs the shuttle at OCC (I believe Warren also) very efficiently. I am very sure public going to driving range will pay for shuttle to go to the driving range or even golf course. MBGC is a public course, its not as if we are asking Tanah Merah or Sentosa golf clubs for shuttle service.

Steam man, looks like there is no turning back already, must wait until nobody wants a car, then can buy/upgrade car... The herd mentality is better buy now before go up again.....same as tution for kids...better learn now before others learn them.....(hmmm...is that why I bump into a kid in P2 learning algebra??? )..... So you see, the education system here has been recognized worldwide and thus implied that the tution system here works.....and therefore, the herd mentality should be correct...and proven......hahahahah (pengsan)

| I just bought a 2007 Audi S6 (5.2l V10, quattro all-wheel drive) - AED170k, which works out to SGD64,300
The 2006 Audi RS4 (4.2l V8, quattro all-wheel drive) that I bought back in 2008 cost me SGD80k back then. Checked the price of the same car in Singapore, pretty much same mileage, same model year, and it was going for SGD235,000 in SGCarMart.
Petrol is around AED1.48 (SGD0.56) per litre right now, 98RON.
No income tax. No road tax. SALIK, aka ERP, is in 6 locations in Dubai, costs AED4 (SGD1.50) each time to pass through, but capped at AED24 (SGD9) per day max
This gives you an idea of how much money you guys are contributing to Singapore, Inc.
And why I left Singapore.

| And petrol in Saudi Arabia now cost SAR 0.45 (SGD 0.18) per litre, RON 91.
A 2006 Chevrolet Epica (2.0L) cost 16,000 SAR (SGD 6,300).
Also no road tax, parking is free, insurance cost SGD 200 for third party, and best part no ERP or SALIK!
Welcome to Middle East, and why I left Singapore.

| I bgt my car abt 3 years back. If I sell my car now, I will have "driven for FREE" the last 3 years. The rise in COE will cover my depreciation. But then what? take MRT to play golf? Unless I also quit golf | |

| The theory of "Sell high, buy high" apply both to Car and Property....
The only different is Car is always a liability and Property is an asset (hopfully)...
with the current car rebate system, i would say it is much safer to drive your car for at least 5 yrs...I have reach my 5th yr and in fact i intend to drive it till maybe 6 or 61/2 yr before i seriously consider to change a car....
just my view only...keke
