Can hybrid replace wood?

I guess it all boils down to what you feel more comfortable with. As long as you can hit the ball with confidence, then stick with it. It may be a FW, H or a long iron. Regardless, if it suits you, that works

First of all, you have to find out what kind "distance" do you want to achieved.

A 3 & 5 Fairway wood will always be Longer vis-a-vis Hybrid. But sometimes when you mishit your shot, the dispersion is worst.

I used to have these following fairway combo on my bag....
a 3wood 15* / 5wood 18* / 7wood 20* and 9wood 23*

But right now, i still keep my 3wood & 5wood but gave up my 7wood and 9wood and replaced it with a 21* hybrid & a 4Hybrid 23*

Now to your questions....

Nowadays, Golf clubmakers have been making several kinds of Hybrid clubs.

There are hybrids that are made to replace your irons
and there are some hybrids that are made to replace your fairway woods.
You have to find out what distance do you want to achieve and choose which clubs gives you confidence and forgiveness.

Does anyone know which hybrid has the Strongest / lowest degree of loft? Need something to replace to a 3H....

Dun think the is a standard loft, TM rescue 3 is abt 19* and if not wrong Nike VR hybrid 3 is 21*

Question: if i need a hybrid to replace my 5i & 4i which is 27 & 24 loft respectively, does it mean that the hybrids also need to be at the same loft as my irons?

I dun think so... have to look at the distance you can achieve and if they fill the gap. Usually hybrids are abit longer than the irons

a good point of reference is the club length of the irons and hybrids.... loft being similiar

if your 5i is 39in, then your hybrid shd be the same length for similiar distance....

likewise for 4i n 3i.....


thus its hard to hit the kind of distance that 3w (43in) or 5w (42in) give unless u build a 14/16* hybrid with a 41in or more shaft

If we apply F=ma, then yes. that is why I felt that I should gain weight, so that I can swing with more force...hahahahah

i can't remember where i read the physics, but of the 3 or 4 factors that determine distance:

1. Loft - most important
2. Length - not as much as loft. longer shaft could result in slower club head speed due to difficulty to swing and accuracy of hitting sweet spot
3. Head weight - affects swing weight a lot, affects accuracy of hitting sweet spot, increase distance but not a lot.
4. CG - Low CG reduce spin, increase launch, depends on angle of attack to increase distance.

should it? dun know, i hate my physics teacher......

dont give up on the 3 wood.....when u get it, the distance gain is much greater, especially when you go into strong woods. Its not that hard to hit, just dont swing like a hybrid.

Even a beginner like me can hit the 3 wood...its not that difficult.

At the start I almost killed another golfer with my 3 wood (ball slice the ball pass a golfer who suddenly pop up behind the hill. The ball only missed him by 10m. He did not even realise it.

Hybrid is great but when you want to go that extra distance (especially after a great tee off and the ball is in almost perfect lie), nothing beats the 3 wood.

If cannot hit the wood, get the hybrid wood (basically a hybrid with longer shaft and bigger head). Dont give up on it.


Also i prefer to use E = 1/2 mv ^2

v = velocity = swing speed

Are your hybrids:

a. Same brand and model
b. Same brand but different model
c. Different brand and different model

Before I learnt how to hit a driver, 3 and 5 wood were my drivers. They are slightly easier to learn and as you start to hit it pure you start with the driver. The best way to turn yourself off from golf is to start with driver!
