I was playing Legends on Tuesday with my buddies and had a 2 ball flight ahead of us. I am pretty tolerant with slow golfers but this pair just ruined my game.

They spent over 10mins looking for a ball when there is a full flight behind them at the tee off box! The ultimate was on a 498m Par 5, they were into their 2nd shot and just stood there waiting because there was someone at the green!!! I reckon there was at least 280m between them, I was so pissed I drove up to what they are waiting and they were waiting for the guys to clear the green.... come on, if you cannot shoot over 200m with the driver, how the hell to shoot over 250 with a wood! worse still, don't use caddy!

That was the first time that I played morning in JB and got home at 3pm, usually can get home by 1pm.

I think golfers should be more considerate, I usually just drop a ball and go one with the game if I see a flight behind.

Thanks for allowing my rant.

Yeah seriously....guess most of us had experienced such before....

But I was just thinking....is this something to do with the very popular saying ' that one can do anyting if one puts one's mind to it '........hmmmmmmm....let me see if I can go for the pin like tiger for my next game if I 'put my mind to it'.....

Isnt it the job of the marshal to advice the earlier flight to move on? I was at mbgc on monday, 7 early 8 early tee off. The marshal obviously had a bad morning and was barking at us to speed up. The best part was there was no flights behind us. LOL.

hmm.....marshals can be quite funny breed. When you need them to chase slow flights in front, they are not around. When you are enjoying your game without slowing down flights behind, they appear and bark at you to speed up play!

On this note, I wonder if marshals take a course or some certification for them to do their job as marshals? Anyone any clue on this?

I am not surprise it happen when you are a local playing at MBGC. If you are a foreigner it will definately not happen. I witness it myself before. They are well known for practicing double standards.

TLHENG, I understand your frustration. However, let's not trudge down this path. We had this discussion before and if you were not pleased with the way the marshals had performed their duties, then you should raise this with the management.

Most clubs only push the 1st few flights in the morning to prevent a pile up for the whole day. Other than that, they will only push if super slow (holding up a few flights), members complain, out of buggies kinda emergency..Razz

I am more pissed with dangerous play more than slow play.

I ever had 3 balls drove near my flight of four on the last hole in MBGC.
It was a par 5 and all our drives were on the fairway; and we were waiting for the front flight to take their 3rd shot onto the green. The back flight (all foreigners, I asked the marshalls after) teed off and continued to tee off even after we waved to them asking them to stop.

MBGC cant really do much if they are tourists as it is a public course, blacklisting them would not be much of a deterant unless you are SG or PR.

You are trying to teach me what to say and what not to say? truth hurts. Am I not allowed to point out to the writer of the post that I am not surprised that it happens to him? You don't seems to be happy when I comments about MBGC.

So you are saying tourist will be allowed to infringe rules as and when they wish and MBGC should not do anything about it?

THLENG, as much as it hurts, i think because of the ang moh tua kee mentatility, they do get abit slack compared to us locals. No offense intended to all fellow caucasian GRers but this is the ugly truth of this world.

I do not think technospaz is trying to teach u what to say and what not to say. He just misread into your post.

and TSpaz, you reading too much into it lah! He talking about MBGC marshalls, not us. Wah Lao, all excited about Jr. that you are not reading your posts properly. Go back and fix the crib.

On the contrary, I understood exactly what TLHENG is trying to say. I know that he's talking about MBGC's marshals. My point was that we should not delve into discussions about foreigners vs locals, which is what TLHENG was pointing out, i.e. about how foreigners are treated better.

I don't want MBGC coming after us for such comments. Like I mentioned, if you are not pleased with the way the marshals had implemented the rules, you should have raised it with MBGC's management.

And I also said very clearly that I understand your frustration. So, please do not take it out on me.

I am the golfer / flight in front of rdchin71 flight on Tue 12 Jan. Let me give you all the view from my angle. I hope to be as unbiased as possible.

The above incidents started at the Palm Course. Breezy, hot and sunny day.

3rd Hole - 344m Par 4: Downward facing tee-shot and uphill greens.

My flight mate and I teed off. Mine found the fairway and my mate's was seen heading towards the fairway after a slight fade. On reaching the fairway, my flight mate's ball could not be located. I hit my shot and then proceeded to help to look for the ball. After a few minutes looking, he decided to declare a lost ball.

Soon after, I heard a thud - the sound of a ball landing, not more than 30m laterally from where I was standing. Buggy was on the fringe of the fairway, clearly in sight of the tee box. I looked up towards the tee box. Don't recall hearing any calling of "fore", no apologetic wave but saw this orange shirted person walking away from the tee. I brushed it off as "one of those things that happen".

We finished our hole - mine with a par and bogey for my flight mate. I drove the buggy slightly away from where it was parked and waited. I wanted to see who it was that hit that shot before our 2nd shot was completed. I saw this orange shirted person again walking upslope diagonally away from the green - shirt tails untucked and fluttering away. Another buggy drove up towards us and I asked the driver who it was that hit the ball so close to me. He said it was his friend and pointed in that direction. He then apologized for his friend's play. I said apology accepted and drove towards the next tee.

4th Hole: 460m Par 5: Downward sloping fairways and greens. Brisk backwind.

We teed off, my ball landed on the fairway. As we approached my ball for the second shot, I noticed that the flight before us (2 ball) was just approaching the green. Given that I have about 220 - 230 m to the pin (red) and it was downhill and backwind blowing, I decided to err on the side of caution and waited for them to move off.

Before I could take the second shot, I heard someone hollering something boorish from the tee box behind and soon after this orange shirted golfer was racing down the fairway towards me. We had an exchange of words and he drove off in a huff thereafter. I questioned him as to why he played a dangerous shot towards me at the previous hole. He said that he hits 200m and no way his shot could reach me since I was 250m away from the tee - so it would seem that I could tee off 250m. Hence my decision to wait for the front flight to clear the green since I have the perceived ability to hit long. We offered him to overtake us since he accused our 2-ball flight of being slow but he drive off in a angrily. I'm glad to say that I went on the play well and these 2 incidents did not affect my game whatsoever.

The Palm Course was packed with flights. From the first tee-box, there were already 2 flights ahead of us. Being quite a challenging 9 hole course, there could be delays when golfers miss fairways - this is evident on the next 2 holes (Hole 6 and 7).

My view is that if there is slow play, the course marshall should be the ones to advice golfers to speed up play. Endangering the safety of other golfers is not acceptable and shows a lack of consideration and etiquette.

TS,

I believe that free speech is encourage here (unless you are telling me not). In any case, i do not see anything wrong with TLHENG's reply as he/she is just sharing with us his/her experience with MBGC's marshall. Are you trying to tell us that no negative comments are allowed to be posted at all? If yes, then what is the purpose of this forum? Are we not even allowed to warn other member of less than desired services/products based on personal experiences? I thought the forum is all about sharing. Geezzz.

S8, of course free speech is allowed and opinions are welcomed. However, some sensitivity needs to be practised. We live in a multi-cultural society and while we would all like to be vocal, sometimes it is best to reserve comments which may be insensitive. I'm sure you can appreciate that. If not, that's too bad.

This is not about free speech....

if it is, then one is saying about nationality, then another say recommend to avoid, then another one say why cannot......Not sure about you, but this is as free speech as can be ....at least to me..

Peace everyone. Techno is just advising us not to make comments abt mbgc management on a case that is subjective and hard to prove. We do not want lawsuits for causing loss of income right?

If you are unhappy with the government, write to them. If it is correct, they will thank you and take action. If your views are wrong, they will tell you their stand and thank you for highlighting nonetheless. Post the comments on a magazine or go speakers corner and you are likely to get a lawsuit if your comments are unfounded.

Ts who had been practicing law for a while is just trying to help and make sure that our comments are moderate and not potential for disaster.
