No one is ever as consistent as they'd like to be. If I was THAT consistent, I'd be a scratch golfer now Very Happy Uncle Bob says that most playing pros only hit a couple of good shots per round. I guess that's why they say golf is like life -

- you never always get what you want, and it's about making the best of what you have or get...

ochoa spend 2 hours a day on her chipping and 1 hour on her putting according to an interview....

if we don't do such work, sucks is expected...so dun worry!

I bet you go to the range more often than you go chipping/putting

that is my problem too...

My fitter/coach always tells me -- don't copy the pros. Those people train from young and train for hours every day, and have the flexibility and strength built up over the years. Just have simple swing mechanics and focus on good ballstriking, and learn to enjoy the game. With enjoyment comes confidence, and lower scores will naturally follow -- give it time.

I would generally agree with what your fitter/coach says, ghoonk. For most amateurs, trying to play like a pro may be a disaster because we do not have as much physical prowess as the pros, we do not have similar ball striking abilities (as you said) and we don't have as much consistency. So, we try too hard and end up making a mess.

But, without the pros, where would our interest in the sport be? It's because of the pros and our love for the game that inspires us to continue going back to the course notwithstanding our horrendous game.

It's a fine balance and I also agree that we should work on our own game and swing first. After all, golf is a very individual sport Smile

In my case, my pro at the Butch Harmon School of golf was good for my short game, but the positions he wanted me at in my swing were not what my body was capable of. That's where my other 'coach' cum fitter comes in -- he knows what the limits are and has me work within my limits. In a sense, he has nothing to lose if I improve, and I have improved under his tutelage. But BHSG takes a more holistic approach to golf, introducing yoga, strength training, drills, etc

Let's face it, if I started golf as young as "i", i'd be in a much better form now... Razz That guy has a superb swing, will go places if he continues to work hard

problem is we want to hit pro-like numbers, not necessarily hit like pro

as soon as we can hit consistently, say the driver 180m straight down the center, we then want to hit 200m, then 220, then the more pro-like 250m. This is where all the wrong mechanics (faster takeaway disrupting the tempo, the overswing/reverse pivot thinking its the X factor, more right hand brute force, very strong grip) comes in (for me anyway). Can hit longer but more wayward, ofcourse we only remember that ONE 240m hit and forget the other 9 hooks/shanks/slices.

The wrong mechanics will then creep into the iron play, thinking that 9iron 100m can become 100m PW. Dont know why ppl are not happy with an accurate 8 or even 7 iron 100m and prefer a 'less than accurate' 100m PW

doesnt help when ur 3 hybrid goes 200m and logically thinking ur driver should be 240m.

Correct. That's why golf is such an odd game. The harder you try to hit the ball, the more likely you're going to mess up the shot - fat, thin, push, pull, hook, slice, sky, etc. That's why I try to manage my swing tempo, so I dont end up trying to overswing. Also, it helps to find a launch monitor to tell you what your real yardages are, and stick with that table. Custom fitting will help you to better manage the gaps between your clubs -- e.g. if you're hitting your hybrid 200m, and your driver goes 220m, look at dispersion. Maybe one shaft is too soft, or one is too stiff. Also, keep in mind that even Tiger Woods sometimes chooses to play his 3w instead of his driver to trade accuracy for distance - no shame in that

Sometimes, equipment setup also plays a part -- I used to have a lot of problems getting my 3i to go 190 yds on my TM TP MBs. Ended up trying to hit the ball harder, resulting in poor tempo, body being pulled out of position, and that ended up with fat and thin shots. My fitter put 2.5g of lead tape behind the muscle without telling me (we were on the course), and told me to swing more smoothly like i usually do, and suddenly I was wondering how come i was able to clear 200 yds. Such a small change cost nothing, yet made a difference. As much as we sometimes try to blame the indian and not the arrow, tweaking arrows does help some, if done by a qualified and experienced pro.

I feel the earlier MP3x forge blades are rather soft. I like the current Nike VR forge blades which to me are quite soft too and handles very well. The other forged blade set that I like is the TM MB TP. Also tried my friend's Muira Blades and agree its buttery smooth.

I personally prefer the satin finish of the MP32s over the MP67s, but if I were to rank my irons in terms of feel, forgiveness and balance, it would be as follows:

1. Miura Giken MB-5003 with KBS Tour shafts (suspect R flex but DGman says S flex)
2. TM RAC MB (Miura forgings) with Project X 5.0 shafts
3. King Cobra Pro MB with Project X 5.0 shafts
4. TM TP MBs with Rifle 6.0 shafts
5. LZG Forged Z0 with TT TX90 S flex shafts
6. Mizuno MP32 with TT DG R300 shafts
7. Mizuno MP14 with TT DG S300 shafts
8. Cleveland CG1 Black Pearl with TT DG S300 shafts <-- really considering reshafting this set and getting it refinsihed. The head shape is wonderful, but the S300s are just too heavy for me.

Still have one extra set of TM RAC MB Miura forgings with PX6.0 shafts (not the HL, but made by Rifle, not TT), but that set will need some work as well -- will need DGman to have the lie angles bent to my specs, and am seriously considering getting KBS Tour shafts for them if he can get them to feel/play like the Miura Gikens
