Hi bro slinger, your WITB looks familiar. Are you the towkay that shared a buggy with a young punk last Sat morning at NSRCC changi?

If you are, I've seen some excellent sand play from this guy.. Will take his advice man..

Before even deciding whether to clear the highest lip or the lowest lip, I think another important point is to practise your sand bunker shots. Mastering it is the best.

After hitting 4 or 5 shots and the ball is still in the bunker at least you must know if,

1) It is your swing
2) It is your poor judgement choosing the highest lip or lowest lip.
3) Your ego
4) or whatever.

Have to learn mah. If not, next time hit 4-5x ball still in the sand, how?

I am still having problem clearing MBGC bunker so pls take this with a large pinch of salt. Very Happy

Step 1 - Aim at the bunker. 90% of the time, u will not go in there
If u really do, congratulations. Move on to step 2.
Step 2 - Aim away from the bunker, 90% of the time, u will not go in there

If u really do, go back to step 1

Thank you all for the feedback!
Guess will do what most recommend, hit to the lowest lip or try my best, keep my fingers cross that my balls will drop inmy to those bunkers...

I will probably go back to practise those sand bunkers and kill those Sands!

thanks!

Had many great memories at mbgc, of cos this includes meeting bro slinger there in the middle of the course one time..

All the bros had given great advises so I will just reiterate on one:

Make full use of the GPS system in the buggy and manage your play..

eg.
1. If you see the fairway bunker to be 180m in the middle of the fairway, then play 165m. No point trying 200m from your fw woods to play over the bunkers.
2. If you see the bunkers on the right of the fw like the 1st hole, aim extreme left, a lot of space there.. Vice versa, for 10th, aim extreme right, if you are lucky your ball may even hit the buggy track and roll another 50m forward..
3. For the short par 4 with the bunker in the middle of the fw 210m away, I normally use wood to lay up, left with the most 120-130m.

In short, play to avoid the bunkers at all cost, even if it means playing shorter.

Perhaps you could experiment this the next time you are at mbgc, I am very sure you will play a much lower score..

cheers

In my opinion, if you're not betting, for practise sake, try at least once to clear the bunker ... If fails, hit out at the lowest lip of the bunker ... To clear this high bunker wall, open clubhead face of your 58 or 60 deg wedge as much as possible, stance open, take a deep breathe and pray hard ... hands/arms remain soft ... slide your wedge beneath the ball (remember to follow thru fully) ... Good luck!

cheers

I will use a 7i to hit the ball against the high wall and let the ball ricochet out ...

Sometimes work sometimes don't

And will scar the golf ball...

Rule 28

The player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on the course, except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable.
If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke:
a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or
b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or
c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole.
If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.
When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball or substitute a ball.

Under USGA rules, definition of bunker is:
Bunker: A "bunker" is a hazard consisting of a prepared area of ground, often a hollow, from which turf or soil has been removed and replaced with sand or the like.
Grass-covered ground bordering or within a bunker, including a stacked turf face (whether grass-covered or earthen), is not part of the bunker. A wall or lip of the bunker not covered with grass is part of the bunker.

In the case of the pot bunkers in mbgc, is it possible that the wall of the pot bunker which I note is covered with some sort of material, may be considered as "stacked turf face" and therefore not part of the bunker? Can anyone clarify?

Wall of pot bunkers in MBGC is part of bunker, see last line of the bunker definition.

Stack turf face refers to bunkers with little islands in them, either cover in grass or earth.

Hope that helps

I hate the bunkers at MBGC too. They're really a lesson in humility, i.e. you have to take the painful approach of playing out first even if it's playing away from the hole. As most of the folks here have said, it may mean playing backwards.

MBGC is a good course as it teaches you course management. It may be worthwhile playing short and away from the bunkers than to risk it by trying to cross bunkers and falling inside. I've lost many many many strokes trying to get out and it really wrecks my game.

If it's any consolation, you're one of the many folks here who have difficulty with MBGC's bunkers. Simply, don't feel dejected Smile

The bunkers in MBGC do not irk me... Other things in MBGC do
- The rude marshals who don't have common sense. It's almost that they just carry out their tasks without exercising judgement. When you asked why, their reply 'management decision, we just follow'.
- They also tend to have their walkie talkie beeping at the wrong time (eg middle of your backswing).
- It's also probably the only 18 hole golf course which do not install water coolers and charge you for serving water in the golfers terrace. The rationale given to me is because it's a public course and they need other means to get revenue... Seriously?!
I wasn't exactly joking when I suggested (4) don't play at MBGC. I tend to avoid it myself, only on exceptional occasions I play there.
