Defective exchanges are a given, no?
You would think.
I know, that's why locally consumers are so grateful to be able to get a working replacement even though it's no fault of theirs and having to put up with the inconvenience and sometimes disputes. How this contributes to our service levels remains a mystery to me.

coz there are too many consumers who also like to take advantage of defective exchanges, warranties etc, and 'spoiling the market'

These costs are part and parcel for any company opening it's doors to do business. Most manufacturers have reasonable return policies but it's up to local resellers to support the return, repair or refund process. It sucks when legitimate customers are at the mercy of retailers and unreasonably 'forced' to accept such costs.

I remember (many years ago) when Argos (a retailer in the UK which some of you may be familiar with) was up in arms because students (mostly Asian) would buy notebooks/laptops around exam time to use for their essays and then return them for a refund thereafter.
It's in our blood to be cheap and sneaky about things. I don't blame retailers for being difficult. They have their own interests to protect.

I believe that any responsible retailer would have a mature retail model which among many other things like ensuring product quality, competitive pricing etc, a sound product return model. This would be assuring to the customer, which would in turn promote repeat consumership resulting in a win-win scenario.

Dun fret, The Lemon Law is in-placed in Sg ...
Yes bro, having this law is a positive way forward in protecting the rights of consumers. But it's pathetic when the law needs to be invoked on errant businesses to comply.

When M&S first arrived on our shores, I was stunned by their liberal no questions asked return policy. Had read somewhere that kids would buy dresses and suits to wear to the prom and return them the next day for a full refund. Yet till today M&S continues to enjoy a sizeable market share and maintaining strong growth internationally.
