| Then they should set an example and close the golf course inside the Istana. Inside there got a mickey mouse 9 hole. | |

| Close also for what, cant put HDB in istana. Instead we should encourage the leaders of this country, incl prez Tan, to be avid golfers like GCT. So they will support the game | |

| Golf courses take up so much land, and worse still, so few pple actually get to use it (unlike the public parks and nature reserves). Can't blame the Govt for not renewing the leases of some golf courses to make way for other developments. | |

| SICC are frequented by the big bosses and papayas, hence should be quite safe. They may choose to relocate our only public course on prime land to suburbs...sad sad. Press also reported more reservoir access to public for recreation, so maybe courses near reservoir may also be under consideration. | |

| I always had the impression that mbgc was a temporary thing to make use of the reclaimed land while it "settles"... But maybe if it is popular and making good income plans may change? | |

| If we got a Singapore version of mini tiger woods or Rory McIlroy then maybe different fate for courses? Quick make more babies and give them a 3 iron when they are 5 years old! | |

I wouldn't classify Keppel Club as 50-50. Govt will definitely take it back.

| Quote from MND: "Beyond 2030, we will still have room for growth through further land reclamation. There will also be opportunities to further optimise and redevelop our land. For example, we can look forward to the development of new growth corridors both in the north (from Woodlands to Punggol) and in the south (from Tanjong Pagar to Pasir Panjang Terminal). Over the long term, the way we live, work and play will continue to evolve, and we will continue to exploit technology and implement innovative solutions to further optimise our land uses." Govt is looking to optimize land use in that area. The container terminals will be moved to Pasir Panjang to free up land for residential and commercial use. So the golf course will move as well since it is not optimal land use. I don't know anything which you guys don't la. So maybe confirmed is too strong a word. I change to I'm 95% sure Keppel will be gone. So that still got chance for me to 下台 if land lease for Keppel is renewed. | |

| The problem will be solved on its own: Soon, coe will be 300k, so many people will have to give up our vehicles. So. Having to take a cab to play golf will be too cumbersome and more people will give up the sport. It will be a none issue to have fewer courses.
Courses in JB will suffer too for the same reason.

Popularity means nothing in the pursuit of economic wealth and land optimization.

Spot on! Look at tenure for golf courses - 30 years. Check URA plans - time for reclaimed land to settle before highrise can be built - 30 years. All waterfront land reaching 30 years will be considered prime and sold with 99 years lease (think Sentosa). My gut says SICC (prime), Keppel (prime) gone. Then Warren (highrise), Seletar (lowrise) gone. MBGC will also go for prime commercial/residential. The trend mirrors what happened in Australia - golf courses on prime land gave way to residential projects.
In the White Paper, private transport usage discouraged. Clear indication where car prices going. I suspect quota on numbers to be imported and COE on a ballot system. That way COE stays sane but down to luck whether you can get a car. So even if you want to go to a golf course in JB, it will be problematic unless you live there. Which, I think, is something worth considering.

| Seletar CC area is still marked for Greenery and Recreational purposes, doubt that it will go. Note that the land where OCC is located has been marked as "Reserved" | |

| Hi i am new and have been reading through posts -the issue of golf courses being closed is interesting although worying as my brother has recently been offered job on one of courses mentioned as possibly closing. I dont want to say which but it was in the list of courses suggested will close. How likely is this ~ he is moving from abroad, is it a big risk or so far in future it wontmatter to him? | |

It is another 8 years before leases start expiring. Most people dont hold the same job for 8 years.
