| Still very new to the game. What I remember from my few games, especially my first one back in April.
1) Bring water. Lots. Best have 1.5L bottle and top it up when you can.
2) Sunblock. Apply again after 9 holes. More times if can.
3) Safety first. Make sure you cannot hit the flight in front. Shout FORE or BALL if your shot go haywire. Also, look out for fellow flight mates. You might be in the way of their shot or they are in yours. Especially when nearer the green and some are chipping in.
4) Have a rough idea what club what distance. Write down on a small piece of paper to refer to if need be. I had a fellow newbie friend who don't have an idea. End up think that PW can fly further than 3 wood.
5) Bring more balls and prepare to lose them. Best is buy 2nd hand ball from caddy or pro shop. (M'sia courses sell them quite cheap). If cannot find ball in 2 mins, just drop and play.
6) Don't worry about score. Just try to enjoy the game and scenery.
And last but not least, most important thing for me: 7) Remember to check around the green before going to next hole for clubs. Your own and your flightmates'. Even regular players will forget and leave clubs lying around. Have lost a wedge, 2 headcovers and 2 towels already in the few games so far.

| Just to add on.
First time on course, just relax and enjoy! Don't be too hard on yourself if you hit bad shots!

sorry, but wat do you mean by stepping on the line? and the cup?

sorry, but wat do you mean by stepping on the line? and the cup? When you reach the putting green, you and your flight mates will likely mark your ball position and pick the ball up so that you can clean / align the ball. The imaginary straight line from the ball marker to the hole is the putting line. As a matter of etiquette, you cannot step on the putting line. That's why when you watch golf tournaments on TV, sometimes the players (when very close to the hole) stand in some weird position to putt the ball in. That's because they are avoiding the putting line of another player. I stepped on someone's putting line once, and got an earful from that person :-D HTH.

| Keep your expectations looooowwwwww
Forget what the pros can do as what you seen on tv They do golf for a living. Eg if your tee shot is inside trees, chip out sideways instead of aiming for a small gap in the branches for a ball sitting near tree root.
You will duff and top your shots. And perhaps air ball
Play your shot shape for the day. Eg after 6 holes, every tee shot is a weak slice to the right, accept it, fix it in the driving range next time. From hole 7 onwards, aim left of the fw and hope your slice will fade to right side of fw, keep in play.
You should learn more about your game. Eg bunker shots, 40m pitch Then after your game practice those areas of weakness

| 1) If you're not sure what club to use, just bring a few with you so that you won't have to walk back to the buggy to take another club (save energy and time) 2) Always remember to bring the bottle of sand with you to repair divots. (I sometimes forget then have to run back to buggy to take) 3) Bring lots of water. I thought I am a camel so brought 1.5L which barely lasted 9 holes. Don't even need to pee cause all sweated out. Nearly dehydrated by the last 2 -3 holes. 4) Just relax and enjoy bah. There's nothing wrong with using just 3 - 4 clubs you're more comfortable with throughout the entire game. | |

| Also, remember you don't always go 2 on for par 4 and 3 on for par 5. Since you are playing with a caddy with you, I think not so bad. But do bring lot of balls. I encountered before beginner, go to 18 holes, brought only 2 balls. Citing on TV the pros only used 1 mah....faint. Last thing remember, after putting the ball, remember all the clubs you bring along with you to the green. No need to donate to fans. | |

| bring extra balls and sunblock/arm cover if you dont wanna get sunburnt. wearing a cap is really helpful esp if you're playing under the hot sun, keeps you cool. also bring plenty of water and bring some bread just in case you're hungry in the middle of the game. | |

| most importantly, just relax, focus and try not to get frustrated if you hit a bad shot or lost some balls. it can ruin your game. buying used balls will be better for you coz you will definately gonna lose some balls. | |

| hv few balls in the pocket in case u lost / can't find the ball.
bring few clubs if unsure of distance so u don't hv to run back and forth to the buggy.
enjoy yr game....

pls give me some tips base on your past experiences for what a flight of newbie would probably overlooked on their 1st 18holes.
apart from bring more balls, book a cabby, dont be too excited over every little single thing, importantly must relax and enjoy, what are the others dos and donts? Have 7hrs of rest before your game. Water parade 1hr before your game. Focus and focus.

| BTW, an addition one.
Not too sure about the locker rooms in SG, but the ones in Thailand have locker rooms that allow you to shower, chill and relax and freshen up before you leave. Bring extra chill clothes and make full use of the locker room.
A golf kaki never brought extra clothes and never showered after a game. Disturbing to say the least. But that's his freedom. I can only manage with a smile when I ask him, "Not showering?"
You'd wanna smell like a million bucks when you waltz into the clubhouse to chill over nice food. Not smell like a sweaty hunk (unless you're into such stuff).
