| I just played my BFG with i95 at royale jakarta this morning. My benchmark is BFG with i99, both R flex. The i99 set is the older version, with more toe weighting and less offset. they hit so straight. I felt confident to aim at the pin when I had a good lie, every time. Feel wise, i99 is smoother on the hands. I95 send more vibrations to my hands. It felt more firm as well, firmer to flex. I99 def more soft buttery. Miss hits on the toe gives a loud thwack sound. Flushed shots gives deep pitch sound, so ample feedback for the purists. Ball flight slightly higher on the short irons, lower on the long irons. Got more roll out of 7-5 irons shots onto the green. Way less push shots...the older set goes right more often, this set just go straight. I dunno if the lie is the same tho. My miss hits were thin and fat shots...thin and toe shots still go the distance, no discernible loss. I hit a fat shot twice and distance was short...just like any other irons. No magic for fat shots. Carry Distance is consistently shorter by abt 5m. However the i95 cut length is half inch shorter than my i99 set, so maybe not apple to apple comparison. So happy with my BFG and SF combos. no regrets selling the pings, cobras and Tms. Indie brand is fine....I'm sure there are forumers who may be waiting for second hands to hit marketplace. I think maybe if a better cb004 comes out else wait long long

so true... it has been a year since BFG CB003 first launched. till date, still no 2nd hand in the market... all hold on their their fishy sticks. really must have CB004 before we will see any 2nd hand in marketplace. Go engrave a "S" behind the 003, and call it an improved model.. CB003S

Playing these clubs are like shall we say 'playing with fire'?
The temptation for most to 'touch' them is always there.
Also, if SS thinks they are good, you can be sure it offers some merit of credibility. i heard you hit the BFG 5 iron while your flight-mates used hybrid....hope to see you soon and if we miss you before you leave....we will wait patiently for your return...the ASS team will be incomplete without you. It's long but still shorter than the "7 iron". But maybe because the 6 iron just hop and stopped. I am average player and I use a 22 deg hybrid for the same hole.

| Just collected my BFG 5-P irons w SF i80R,, tried the 6 iron, easier to launch than my AP2, probably a combo of lighter shaft (vs nspro950R) and CB irons heads. Looking forward to next game on sat (cimb game on Friday cancelled as both the course are fully booked). | |

| its essential we consider total weight in clubfitting, hence we have a variety of fishy sticks in different weights. total weight can be influence by the club head weight, shaft weight and grip weight. the other consideration is how one's biomechancis can be affected by different type (flex profile) of shaft. some golfers hit better with a softer tip or stiffer butt or a different combination. here's an example of how a shaft will perform and feel different denoted by means of finding the flex using a shaft bending device that will define bending due to a fixed pressure. there are lots of other ways to identify if a shaft is right or wrong. we usually do not look for good shots but rather concentrate on the incident of bad shots. DGman PS we have not forgotten about the How BFG iron is made thread, but it will not be this week cos there are too many things happening... | |

| A quick review on the BFG Irons, especially relevant for beginners who are worried about whether the clubs would be suitable for them. I'll try to be as objective as I can in this post.
I first swung a golf club less than 4 months ago, and just gotten my handicap last month. Have been using one of those max game improvement sets with the monstrously big forgiving heads since the start. After getting a more or less repeatable swing (still with lots of flaws!), I decided to pamper myself by getting a new, flashier set of irons. Went by to BFG to try the irons and a zen putter. DGman was kind enough to let me take them out for a trial run, and I ended up purchasing them resulting in a huge hole in the pocket. Have been using them for the past week or so and here are a couple of thoughts.
Looks: These were quite important to me and I must say these are some fine looking irons. Wonderful to look at in the bag, and even better when you're standing over the ball with it. Plus, it's fully customizable with grips and other stuff so I found it unique.
Performance: So far, so good. I've been very happy with the performance. There was a good gain, nothing out of this world, but still a very noticeable 5-10m off a 7i shot. Also, it goes straight and high on proper contact.
Forgiveness: These clubs are very forgiving. In fact, it doesn't give much up in this regard vis-à-vis my original irons, which is quite a compliment given how the latter were designed to be for maximum forgiveness. Unless it is a really bad shot, most of the time the ball still travels a reasonable distance as long as your club hits the ball.
Feel: Here's where it really shines, these clubs are simply a joy to hit. On good contact, the feeling is exhilarating. The only way I can describe it is that there's a tingling sensation which runs through your hands and into your body. On poorer shots, the feedback is excellent - it's like the club's able to tell you what went wrong in that shot. Contrast this to my original irons, where the feedback is nearly non-existant.
In conclusion, I've been delighted with the clubs so far. If as a beginner you're hesitating, my advice would be to pop by BFG and give them a try. I honestly believe that as long as your swing is more or less consistent, these irons should help improve your game simply because the feedback you receive from it is extremely valuable, while forgiveness is not compromised. If nothing else, they'll make you want to practice more just to get that wonderful feeling these clubs give when you make proper contact.
P.S. At the same time, do give the Zen putters a try. I'm not too sure about the technical stuff, but the putters feel excellent to me.
Cheers bigbanana | |
