Then there's another thread here that complains about slow play (Coach Tendy says...)
If I were running a golf course, I'd be scratching my head.
No offence intended, just making an observation.
The more we focus on what's upsetting us, the more upset we get. Then it defeats the purpose of the game; can't have fun when we're upset, right?
On the flip side, the more we focus on what pleases us, the more pleased we get and the more fun we'll have.
So to both discussions I'd offer this, take it easy.... it's a game, have fun.
Gong Xi Fa Cai, have an excellent new dragon year ahead.
Very well said indeed. Couldn't agree more with you... Happy New Year !!

Actually, i don't think this thread is encouraging slow play. Everybody seems to agree to play to the time sheet and not be late. The contention is with rude enforcement and dangerous play. And the point of letting faster flights through is something i would appreciate and encourage.

Yes, that would be the most common sense. Letting faster flights to play through you so that the slow flights would not be holding the fast one up.
It would be funny if you are the 1st flight and you are slow and you have 30 other flights playing behind you. If you have to let every flight to play through you, hahaha you would be playing a 10 hours game for 18 hole. lol...

| "I see. Well, just look at it in a way that you just have to be considerate to others who are playing behind you. If you are late, they get drag behind and so on. So yeah after all golf is a gentlemen's game so be considerate to others I guess and there's no reason you would feel you get the army treatment. Happy golfing !!"
Bro 9points,
May I ask what you meant by "be considerate to others"? Maybe you should read my earlier comments in its entirety before commenting. There's no other flights behind us other than the 2 Causasians before their friends arrive after us. I invited them to tee-off first but he could not because his flight mates had not arrived. And to put it in technical terms, we are not totally late to the extent the there is a gap from the flight in front. We were not even able to tee off when we were at the tee box as the flight in front is within range and waiting to hit their 2nd or 3rd shot. After the 3rd hole, we pulled away from the flight behind us and was at one time at least 1,5 holes clear of them. I mean this course has got to be at least 3 times more pressurizing than NSRCC.
I am very sure nobody like to be late. If there are indeed such people, they don't deserve to be invited by their friends in this game. As for my friend who was technically late, I cannot disclose due to confidentiality.
Anyway, like I mentioned in my earlier comments, not all the staffs are what some of us here experienced. A big majority are courteous except for 1 or 2 gung ho (black sheep) staffs.
Cheers and Happy Dragon Year! HUAT AH!
Finally, I wonder how this thread which is talking about "Rude Course Marshall" was suddenly change to slow play.

- Generally, I feel the people at MBGC are all ok except for 1 or 2. I forgot to mention the game I had yesterday afternoon. One of my friend was late and reach the reception about 13 minutes before tee-off. After registering and changing in the locker room he was out at the buggy terminal on the dot of the tee time.
One of the marshals (Iskandar, if he is indeed a marshal) had a face as long as the PIE and was obviously displeased and kept pushing us to hurry as we are already late. Hurry we did and off we went to the tee box. Then we saw 2 Caucasians at the tee box in a buggy. We parked our buggies behind them, naturally thinking they are our front flight. Then one of them commented that we are late. We don't need them to lecture us about our lateness. As I drove forward and passed them I replied to the one who made the comment that they could have teed off first without waiting for us since we are late. And there's no other flight behind us. That shut him up because his other flight mates were not there yet.
One and half holes later the rain came pouring and off we return to the clubhouse. IMHO, other than the minor incident above, I don't think there are other big issues at MBGC, save for, like I said, 1 or 2 who tried to manage it in a regimental way. I think for them to behave in the manner they did, they are probably deprived of power and authority and there's no other way but to show it but on the golfers.
I am not sure if any other public golf courses around the world manage their club in such a regimental manner as in Singapore. If I may say, I think our Government started it all. Hi TDO, both of us add up our age and the total will be like a bad day on the course. I am on your side. Age gave us patience and life is about give and take. We win some we lose some. I too on some days playing at MBGC experienced calls by marshals to speed up play. Whether its my flight fault or front flight slow, I will still answer back " sure boss" and the marshal left without further argument and we just continue with our game. They are just doing their job and we are there to enjoy the game. Why the heck want to start an argument ? With age comes more sensibility and patience. Hey TDO, I will soon be out of my hiatus from golf. Will pm you soon for our long awaited first game together AT MBGC ok with you ???? Cheers and a Happy and Prosperous New Year ! Happy golfing ahead... titu

| Hi bro tituman,
Nice to "hear" from you again. Yes, iindeed. We are more than centurions if we add our ages. And yes, I am looking forward to our first game together. Like I wrote in my earlier comments, except for 1 or 2 black sheep, I have no problem with MBGC as these complaints are minor. And yes, generally, I agree that we should always be mindful of the speed of our game and do our best to catch up with the front flight. All that we are asking for in return when asking flights to speed up is fairness, be both courteous and firm from the marshals and not be too regimental in this game of golf. Of course a smile goes a long way if there is one from the marshal.
Cheers! | |

| Hi all, MBGC had responded and this is what they have done to the "culprit"... we shall see if they do honor what they said. ********************* Dear Sirs,
With reference to the emails sent last week, we regret to hear of the unpleasant encounter your flight had with our golf marshal on 18 January.
Course marshals have a schedule of timings/clockings to manage the pace of play within the golf course. While a flight could be 5 minutes behind time after 9 holes, it may cause about 15 minutes delay for another flight to tee off at the 1st hole. Hence, for the enjoyment of all golfers, it is the duty of the marshals to ensure pace of play is monitored and to advise golfers to speed up if they are behind time.
According to our golf course admission records, your flight was approached by a golf marshal at Hole 10. James later approached your flight as your flight was behind the pace of play timing. We have reviewed the encounter you had with James. We regret that though his disposition was without malice, his brash behavior has resulted in a misunderstanding and negative repercussions. We have counseled James and he would also like to convey his apology for causing the unpleasant experience. In view of the incident, we will be re-assigning James to a different jobscope and will continue to monitor his performance in the next few months.
We regret that the experience at our golf course may have marred the impression which you have of the staff at our golf course. Please be assured that we are firmly committed in making the golf experience enjoyable for all. Following your feedback, we have issued a reminder for all marshals to be more sensitive towards golfers as they carry out their course duties. We thank you for your feedback and hope that we can have the privilege to welcome you and flight mates again in the near future.
Thank you.
Regards, Danny Tan Golf Manager **************************
Happy golfing and Gong xi fa cai!
