Ridiculous and rude seller in forum!

I recently saw a Nike golf bag selling with a set of Slingshot irons in the Marketplace forum, and sent the seller a PM to enquire if he was willing to let go of the cart bag seperately. The seller replied with a request for me to contact him on his mobile number, and so I sent him a sms to ask for a price. After hearing his asking price and his ridiculous demand to get an answer at 2am in the morning, I decided to give it a miss and informed him so. But this rude seller decides that I'm wasting his time and even use words like idiot, get lost, shameless, etc, on me. I've looked up on his posts on the forum and they're mostly post selling items. I'm more than happy to PM anybody who's interested to know the nick of this ridiculous seller or so as to avoid getting called names by this childish seller.

So he used words such as "idiot, get lost, shameless, etc," Heck, I've been in situations where those words pointed at me would have been considered compliments compared to what I was actually called.

You're going to have to learn to grow a bit thicker skin and not take things so personally. No one owes you considerate speech and manners; it's just life!

Ridox, I am sorry that you have to endure such treatment here at golfrepublic.org. But as KT has mentioned in his reply, this is a free and public forum. We cannot stop anyone from joining and selling their wares on this forum. Although we have implemented a few guidelines and rules to prevent such things from happening, we can only do so much. You can view the guidelines here. In addition, we require a minimum of 10 posts to be able to start a thread in the marketplace in a bid to encourage our members to first participate in our discussion prior to selling their stuff on the forum. But as obvious as it is, there are many ways to fulfill this requirement to get around our intentions.

On behalf of the rest of the team, I thank you for this feedback. We will investigate this matter and do as much as we humanly possibly can. In the mean time, pls enjoy the rest of this forum and participate in our other discussions!

As for getting second hand stuff, creative joes andFar East Shopping Centre is another good place to start looking for used clubs. I do know alot of people here swears by Greenfield.

The unfortunate thing about trading online as KT alluded to is that buyers and sellers are at risk since they do not always know who they are dealing with (this being a public forum). What I would suggest when buying or selling anything, try to follow these basic ground rules:

1. Do you know the buyer/seller? If not, one gauge of his/her trustworthiness may be the post count. The higher the post count, the more often that person visits the forum as an active member. If he/she has a low post count, that may mean that he/she is new and you should therefore be more cautious. NOTE this is just a rough gauge of where to start if you are evaluating the buyer/seller.

2. If you are buying:

(a) take a look at the pictures of the items. If they are linked from other third party sites (which are not allowed anyway), then you should ask for original pictures. If the seller refuses to post them then you may want to be cautious. Even if the items are brand new, you may ask the seller to post pictures.

(b) ask if viewing of the items is possible without an obligation to buy. This, of course, is done at the convenience of the seller but at least, you have the opportunity to view the items beforehand. If the seller offers this outright, then this is a good sign that the seller is honest.

(c) take a look at the price of the items. If it's too low, then something may be amiss.

(d) always remember the golden rule of caveat emptor, i.e. let the buyer beware. This places the burden on the buyer to take the precaution of assessing the items before buying.

3. In all situations, communication is important. Get in touch with your buyer/seller to discuss the deal. If the buyer/seller is difficult to contact or is difficult to deal with, then exercise caution.

But I guess we have to see the message trend to judge the case (or just for amusement).
Nevertheless, courtesy is the way of life isn't that?

I would suggest to have buyer/seller rating in the market place and make it transparent.

Buyer/seller rating is not exactly high on our priority list. We are looking to talk more about golf rather than sell it.

so far i have only encountered very frenly selllers! hopefully that incident wont happen again..

I've had numerous dealings in this forum with lots of people, and I should say I encounter no problem, and instead, very friendly people here.

Hope it doesn't ruin your golfing chat experience here. Let the marshalls investigate the issue.

I know which seller you are talking about. I receievd similar treatment during viewing, why view if you do not wish to buy. If you look through the market place, he is selling everything in the storeroom.

PMed all who's interested to know who he is. I've actually met all very nice sellers from the forum, just this 1 uneducated fool so far. All other sellers, whether or not I bought from them in the end, they were still very nice.

p3nboy: if you went to view his iron set, he's selling it more expensive than a brand new set. I think you got the right person, cos that sentence sound very much like what he said to me.
