Hi all

I just completed my PC and training in Bishan. So far progress is not very good, always getting blisters on my fingers and sprains in my back.

Hoping to get my handicap next year!

Now I am using Lynx Fury set.

How many balls did you hit to get blisters on your fingers?

Anyway, welcome.

@sillytesky: Alright bro, see you there soon!

@nyisoe: I trained once a week at the range. Hit 400 balls each time. Today the skin of my right middle finger tip got tore off. Damn painful. Then I continue to hit with a loose grip with my right hand. The vibration caused by contact with the ball caused my right finger joints to have Blue Black marks!. Wah, I think next training session I will reduce to 200 balls and wear a bandage on my middle finger. Do you suffer from the same condition?

I can't help it. Since I joined this forum, I keep looking at the clubs you guys have and keep researching on them. Make my heart so itchy, maybe after I have improved to consistent shots, I will upgrade my set too. argh.

Welcome,
I'm no expert but maybe you should hit 100 balls 4 times a week rather than 400 balls once a week.

Then again, I'm the lazy sort who don't like to go range.

Hi Mr.SS......this is DS. With you not going range, how do you maintain your current playing level and profficiency?

Is there a secret to profficiency longevity?

Wow, 400 is already too much lah. I already got blistering if I hit 150 balls twice a week. Blistering will be more serious if I have a lot of bad shots on that day.

Maybe I break it down into 2 visits per week and I shall knock 200 balls each time. Actually it's good to join such forums. There's so many like-minded people here (but of course the skill level is different.. lol)

i hit 90-150 balls a session, i use to hit 200+ but realize that it just make things worst. mindless pounding ball after ball will only let bad swing mistakes creep in and stay once you get tired.

That day I saw this guy hitting beside me, using a hybrid. Damn his shot was really powerful, but it always goes to his left. Midway through the flight, his ball will veer back to the right and land at his 12 o'clock.

I was thinking that if his ball just goes straight, it can reach farther distance. Doesn't it? Is this a type of mistake that this person slowly build up over the years, in order to keep his ball flight straight? Or did he intentionally perform such stunt?

Possibly playing a power fade, I think it's supposed to go further if you do it right. On the flipside I've heard some ppl telling me that a draw shot goes further

If I am correct, the ball flight that you mention is called a fade. Straight shall be far but draw will be further.

Do not need to be impress with his shot as I am sure you will and can hit the same very soon, if you put your heart in learning and train hard in your game WITH your coach.

Unless this guy able to hit every shot and fade his ball then I guess this is his natural swing. Hybrid is much easily to hit compared to wood or even long irons.

Good player usually are able to shape their ball from left to right or right to left. Look impressive but they do not usually do it, unless it is necessary.

What puzzle me was, if this guy is hitting his hybrid so well. Why is he still practice it so much in the driving range ? My opinion for driving range is to practice your worse shot not your best. Why would I be practicing my best shot when I already confidence in doing so. (unless, it is just an warm up before a round).

It is okay to hit 200 balls or more if you can or wanted to. I hit 200 balls too but I spend at least 4 hours in the driving range (including bunker, chipping and putting ). I go through my routine on every ball .. stand behind ball, pick a target .. etc

In other words, practice with a purpose. Work on your swing and made every ball count ... Again, do not forget to practice the short game (bunker, chipping and putting)...

Enjoy your journey of golf ...

I would second Slinger51 and some of the bro's opinion. Hitting 400 for beginner is too much on you body and skin unless you mix and match shots and do it in at least 3 hours.

Once the body is tired, mistake start to creep in and you'll start to compensate which then leads to bad habbit. Not to mention if you duff the shot, really not good for your join and might end up with tennis elboy, wrist pain etc.

I used to hit 300-400 ball on the range over 2-3 hours. that realy kills me on off day specially left knee and elbow. Nowadays sticking to 100 ball at 2 - 3 times a week. 3 - 5 balls for longer club (driver, fairway, 3-9) and ~50 balls on S, A, P. Personaly I got more consistent result and accuracy this way.

HTH.
