| Scott fourth of last six major winners to anchor By Randall Mell Apr 14, 2013 10:03 PM ET AUGUSTA, Ga. – Did Adam Scott seal the fate of anchored putting? Scott won the Masters on Sunday anchoring a long putter. He’s the fourth winner in the last six major championships to anchor a long or belly putter. The USGA and Royal & Ancient Golf Club are reviewing whether to implement a new definition of a stroke that would ban anchoring clubs. “I don't know what it's going to do,” Scott said of the anchored-putter debate. “We are all waiting to hear what's going to happen. I don't know that this is going to impact any decisions at all. You know my feeling on it all, that it was inevitable that big tournaments would be won with this equipment, because these are the best players in the world, and they practice thousands of hours. They are going to get good with whatever they are using. It's inevitable. I don't know that is going to have any impact on any decisions upcoming.” Angel Cabrera said it didn’t bother him to lose to somebody using a long putter. “I don’t think there is any advantage,” Cabrera said. “If it really is an advantage, why doesn’t everybody play it?” | |

| • Scott is the fourth player in the last six majors to win while using an anchored putter, following Keegan Bradley (2011 PGA), Webb Simpson (2012 U.S. Open) and Ernie Els (2012 British) | |

| I don think its the anchoring problem...just blame it on the short putter' putter who did not putt as well as they could . | |

| If you read the original article in thegolfchannel.com you will find some of the comments that insinuate that Adam Scott is a cheater
I don't get how can he be cheating when the rules of golf at this time says it is legit. If it gives him so much advantage, then why did he lose the British Open to Ernie Els? He should have made every putt then.
Adam Scott works hard to get used to long putter. Somehow it works for him. It's an unfair statement to say he cheated when rules of golf permits it.
It's like you go to a math exam using a calculator but your grandpa says you are cheating in your exams. "Shame on you, you should be using an abacus instead." But ministry of education allows you to use the calculator... So what gives?
If anyone of you have a different view from me, it is fine to agree to disagree. I had a belly putter once and my experience is that you still need to practice and get used to it. I have ditched it ever since cos I completely lost my feel for distance control.
All the criticism on him winning the Masters with the long putter just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. That's my view

| is using a belly putter easy? no it is not. i tried before but i gave up so i went back to conventional putter and keep on practicing. those who think adam scott is cheating by using a long putter, then maybe that fella can putt using long putter, and see if it is easy or not. | |

| @pocketace 100% with you man.
Anchor putter or not a win is a win within regulations. Its almost like saying an auto transmission driving licence is not a driving licence.

| So what if the putter is anchored and long. I don't think it give any real advantage. Putting still depends on the golfer's ability to read the green speed, terrain, and feel. If a golfer don't have these skills and attributes, even the best putter in the world is unable to help the golfer. | |

| Adam didnt win the last time he had a chance. he was using the anchored putter then too. to say he won because of anchoring the putter insults the work, anxiety and mental fortitude he has had to put into the game to win. | |

| I AGREE WITH LUKE!! - Quote :
- Luke Donald, who uses a short putter, said of anchored putting, "It’s an advantage for someone who struggles on the green. Managing anxiety and nerves down the stretch is an important part of golf. And I think that takes it out of your hands a little bit."
I ALSO AGREE WITH ELS!! except that its not cheating - Quote :
- Prior to the banning proposal, Els said, "Nothing should be anchored to your body and I still believe that," but, "As long as it's legal, I'll keep cheating like the rest of them."

| Ever since Els criticized fellow players for using long putter, and subsequently went on to use it himself, I've completely lost my respect for him...
