i will lun until u make mistakes.... that's what i was told and agreed, tried that and result still the same, ball go left tree line... and hor I'm aiming the right tree line some more... jinx hole... and the interesting thing is next hole after bell, the drive will always quite straight.. something there at the left tree line is pulling my ball

Yep i try for 2 on, but, even thoug left 150 or so , the ball is on a down hill lie and that time time dun know how to play down hill lie, hit straight to the small pond next to the green..$%#$%$%

| this hole anywhere above 130m will be down slop, and the norm is go right water or pull left into the tee box.
because of the downhill but, the ball will be more penetrative, so to hit it nice and able to stop on the green is tough.
best and safest play is to lay the second shot to safe zone which is the flat and widest area within 50m to 120m

however i saw Rory Mcilroy used 3 wood . it could be just the wind too as well as the downslope allowed to use 3-iron . It was big one has normally pro hit their 3 iron 245 yard for long hitter ( http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-equipment/whats-in-my-bag/2009-11/my_golfbag_rory_mcilroy)

Its Index 1 of the course.. from 170-200M downhill lie and try two on is tough.. aim for 3 on and hope to get close to pin.. still can Birdie. Birdie on INDEX 1 is GOLD

| These guys aren't pros for no reason.
That said, I used to know a local golfer (non-pro) who could really whip the ball back in KL. He had no problems driving the ball to the other end of the range (a good 300m) and given that the back was somewhat uphill-like, I dare say that he could carry 250+m too.
For me, however, I've learned (the hard way) that it's more about how one arrives than how one drives.

| GRians,
Can someone share or explain how to enhance carry distance using driver or woods?
My experience; While practicing at the driving range, I will see my shots land abt 180m + 10-15m carry. But when I play on the green, my shot is usually 200m max (understand That personal ball will fly further by abt 5-10%further) with little or no carry. Sometimes I can see my shots clearly that it went high and then drop like a dead weight while my flight mate's shot will fly lower n roll at least a good 10-15m. I thou in order for one's shot to go far, the shot trajectory must have reasonable height so as to allow the ball to descend not drop.
How do one be able to enhance its carry; is it thru the swing, use of equipment or etc? I m a newbie seeking more info to improve my game. I m not trying to reach the netting at the back of the range but wishing to effectively achieve a longer distance thru efficient swing.

I m not trying to reach the netting at the back of the range but wishing to effectively achieve a longer distance thru efficient swing. I used to have the same problem too. Ball dropped dead from sky with no roll, definitely distance killer. The cause is likely that you put too much back spin on the ball with driver, optimum spin less than 3000rpm. After tinkering with my swing, learning to swing with proper AoA with driver (more upward) and changed to less spin shaft/driver head, I managed to see some rolls now. Distance increased slightly as my swing speed is pretty mediocre. Now focusing on increasing swing speed. Boy, it's a long journey.

| willy, i think you meant to ask how to increase "roll" rather than "carry".
anyway, i agree with matthew. the primary cause of not having enough roll is backspin. u can try taking a video of yourself (front view). At impact, your centre of gravity (judging by where your sternum is) should be behind the ball, so that you can hit up on the ball, thereby creating top spin.
If your CG is in line or in front of the ball, then you are hitting your driving like an iron (ie hitting down on it), thereby creating backspin, which may be why you are not getting much roll on your driver

| Wow... Thks for the advise. Think I will have to get my swing right first before I wanna increase roll for my driver. I still nursing my big slice to the right thus currently address my ball aglined with my toe which have helped me straighten my shots significantly but still slice once or twice when not fully focus during the set-up.
Let my get back to my basics, hopefully can unlearn n learn the proper basics thru getting proper coaching n guidance.

| Sorry I'm never a good advocate of range work especially in Sgp.. Willy. Do note that whatever you see during range would be very different during actual course play. .. Especially the driver.. So don't worry too much during range. Look at your course result. . | |

Hey Willy, the good news is, if you rid yourself of the slice and strive for impact on the sweet spot, you'll gain at least 10 metres without swinging any harder. However, it's a two pronged approach if you want to optimise your driver's carry and roll. For a more efficient swing, see a coach. For a more efficient driver, see a fitter. Get your numbers with a swing monitor like Trackman, provided you have a reasonably consistent swing, then both coach and fitter can work in tandem to optimise specifics vis a vis your swing speed; like your launch angle, spin rate, angle of attack, etc. Sounds simple, but it's a journey that will take some patience and dedication. Enjoy it enroute to your goal of more yards.
