Waited 15 years to be tickled by the devil's balls (attempt to drive past 200m)

I've named this post in honour of Lee's "Waited 2 years for the hands of god" as I was inspired to document my attempts to drive past 200m.

As you can see from my signature, I use a Ping G15 driver and my driving stats are as follows:

Club speed: 91mph
Smash factor: 1.51
Carry: 193m

The goal is to carry 210m-220m to try and compete with the big boys. I shall attempt this magic trick by doing one or all of the following:
1. Lengthening my backswing
2. Swinging at home with a weighted club to increase strength
3. Flattening my swing
4. Squeezing my balls ala ZX, by moving the left leg in....
5. Try hitting up on the ball, try compressing the ball more, tee up, tee down(?)...

I shall then document my results and see whether I am successful by the end of the year, otherwise i will give up and live with what i have...anyone who has any recommended exercises, tips, etc that will help me increase my swing speed and / or increase driving distance, please feel free to comment.......i am wondering whether i should just go for coaching but only for the driver?????...am i asking for too much???

Before I hao lian pretend to be expert dishing out suggestions, only to discover I was trying to advise a seasoned veteran, I better check first. Your handicap is 9, but you can't carry 200m with driver?

Sure or not?

I bet the approach irons and short game are super-sharp. esp after 15 yrs did you say?

My fellow BB, I cannot imagine the damage you would do if you increase your driving distance, especially with your already sharp game.


Still, I must say I empathize with you. Now wonder we are BBs alike, Hiaz.....I was having the same issue as you 2 mths back. Relatively short drive to speak. Lo and behold, some driver lessons with a coach improved the distance!!!

So maybe you want go down the route I took?

Btw, when can we hv a game ah?

dear sir...im in the same predicament as in...everytime 1st to drop off buggy....second shot always a 3w/hybrid/5 iron.....
i have decided it will be easier to blame the equipment so i going to try a lower loft driver and a higher kick point shaft...once im done with my experiment i can share wif u too....in any case if u see me selling some new ping driver with some nice lookin shaft....u would know that my experiment has failed...and it boils down to what my shifu always say ....LOFT....

It's not how you drive but how you arrive... hasn't the other thread taught you that?

Hi mate

what's your other stats on the launch monitor? eg, ball speed,horizontal/vertical launch, spin, angle of attack

To have such a high smash factor would mean you are hitting it great, higher than the tour average of 1.49

if you were to do any of the 5 points you suggested without proper supervision or advice, you could find it harming your game. Remember it's always advisable to seek professional help.

Excellent point...with my current swing, i think i'm maxing out my distance already so need to change something to increase swing speed.......there's a long list of folks here that i've played with that carry the ball further than where my ball stops....

@asahi: i understand from derek that you've re-discovered the magic and have started hitting miles again........i'm beli flee this weekend, my kakis are all travelling....any game? I'm free from sun-tue....

I'm m'sian too, so i write down whatever score i like....no one's actually seen me shoot 9 over........

But i am seriously trying to add some distance to my drive....i think i am consistently among the shortest hitters here.....my driving stats are from trackman readings and am at a lost on what to do......i no longer want to fear the black tee!!!!!!

Like Jhan said above, do you have the other stats from trackman, like launch angle, spin, ball speed, etc? A swing video would also help.

This will be a fun project.

honestly I envy your drive and I will cheer you on along your journey with the hope that I can learn something from you. I still haven't found that courage to sacrifice my iron and wood for the driver again.

Missing the launch angle. Pro like smash and spin rate.

Must pump iron to add 8-9mph more or bribe coast guy to share his secret technique.

Excellent, this gives us a great start.

Looking at the numbers, I think we're in luck. I see some room for easy improvements already. Let me confirm the data and I will revert tomorrow.

Could you check for me, what is the specification of the shaft in your driver? The model, weight, flex? It would be useful in the analysis.

With luck, getting you past 200m may not be too difficult.

i see only 2 things you can improve after playing with you and seeing your stats...

1. try to get you angle of attack higher, abt 1.5 degrees or so, ala LPGA

2. eat more and go to the gym...

cos i'm looking at your numbers and your swing speed is the same as Capt Low's and his smash factor is the same as yours, however, he has a nice 200m carry with the occasional 210m carry

personally, i'd go for option 2... cos thts what i'm doing since eiji made fun of my 150m carry in another thread earlier...

Sham, how can you carry only 150m? not from what I have seen the last time we played though.

He is talking about carrying his sand wedge 150m

actually, his PW is abt 140-150m.....

On a more serious note, I really know how your feel (obviously, since our balls are almost touching ... ). Good luck in your quest bro!

For me, I need to lose some weight, so am going to start swimming regularly, hopefully the regular exercise will be a side effect of also helping me to swing the club faster without exerting more effort.
