Just sharing my first attempt at black oxide & stamping a Bridgestone J40 wedge.

I used all Casey products - (i) Casey blue and rust remover (ii) degreaser (iii) perma blue

Black oxide went pretty well. Stamping not so. Realised I need a larger stamp - 5mm. The ones I used (3mm) were too small and more difficult to leave a deep stamp. Also definitely need more practice on the stamping as a few stamps didn't go so well

1. Before: Rust and wear marks:

2. After stripping off the original finish and rust. This was the most tedious process. Had to use fine-grit sandpaper and steelwool.

3. After applying Perma blue. It turned black almost instantly. Applied a few times to make sure the finish is durable.

4. Paint filled the half-ass stamps. The one on the left is taken under fluorescent lighting whilst the one on the right is under natural lighting

My 1st attempt <a href=My 1st attempt 4_zps729fe625" />

The finish has held on very well after hitting about 50balls on the range.

I'm definitely gg to try this again. I'm gg to use 5mm alphabet stamps the next time and hopefully they come up better.

Happy new year and hope you enjoyed the pics!

Nice!  How long do you have to wait between steps 2 and 3 and how many coats of each were applied?

Nice. Can start to accept service request once you mastered the application and stamping.  Beer

For the rust, will it be easier if use naval jelly then scrub?

I guess chrome wedges will be a bit tougher for this project.

good diy project for the new year.
