the guy who used to do all the restoration in Thailand has since retired. His student will be great if he delivers half of what he promise. so my advice is hands off those guys in taniya. i know the student now has a shop in Thaniya and i have been there.

recently i saw a piece which was restored by BOS in the US. it was carried over to the US by S70B and shipped back to Singapore.

It was very well done i must add.

Ateisha,

I have used LaMont Mann of http://mannkrafted.com/ a few times at the fraction of the costs of what Scotty restoration rates would costs. Good guy and very easy to talk to. U can email him on lamont@mannkrafted.com and u can say Dennis referred u .

Hope am not breaching any rules, advertising someone's services. Just thought I'd chip in as LaMont has become a good friend over the years as well. I hope that fellow GR'ers can benefit from this service as well. I hope to be able to save up for a custom Mann-made for my 2 year old son in the near future as a keepsake.

DGMan is right. BOS is up there as well, and were apparently the 3rd party who did the Tei3's of Scotty Cameron.

Blessings,
Dennis

I have a gamer in my bag now. Decked out in Gator colors to remind me of my good times in FL.

BOS is good. You either bite the bullet and send it to them from Sg or get someone to send it to them from the US.

yeah thats the one and its nicely done at the Pantone 312 i must add. the new milling on the face is a class act. BOS is cheaper than C Studios too.

the price is not expensive, its the freight that inflates the price.

Restoration of Scotty putters Scg5

Dear DGMan,
Gorgeous pimp, the Oil Can Newport 2.
If you could be so kind, may I enquire:
i. what's the headweight like ? Any idea? I read that its 330, but it sure feels heavier on a GB Newport ( I tried one ni Far East) .
ii. Is the site line at the sweet spot or a bit more to the heel.

I prefer the Newport /Anser without the sitelines, but I want to get one that I can stamp my name on one bumper and my son's the other bumper, and the Newport 2 has more space for stamping. My boy already turning 3 and this project is looooong overdue. Something I want to pass down, and decided the "heritage" of the older putters would be more "sentimental" when he grows up (Initially I planned to have his name, his birth date , his birth weight and Daddy's Boy stamped, but I dropped the idea as I seriously doubt if he'd put it in his bag Smile .. ).

Any info would be most helpful. Thanks in advance.
Dennis

Kumbriya, are you talking to DGMan or me?

The link you attached is my putter. I weighed it at 320g after refinish. I slapped on 15g of lead tape on the sole to play it ard 335g.

The BFG one has similar headweight before and after refinish. Only about 3g diff if I remember. Its with one of the BFG bosses (guess!).

All prices are listed on the BOS website including stamping, finishes, paintfills and other special additions like 'ghosting' your putters with a white polymer finish. I have seen some TM Kia Mias ghosted by them very nicely. Its not expensive shipping it back here. Its just the cost of shipping it there that will make it not as viable.

I have had about 5-6 Scotty putters refinished by them (lost count)...even visiting them at their San Marcos office. Very nice people and great customer service.

Hi S70B,
So sorry for the case of mistaken identity. The hazards of forums without the name to a face.
Thank you for your response. I may just get it sand blasted with out milling when I score one on ebay so that I can keep it at apx 330g .

Can I check with you, if the sweet spot is exactly as where the site line is as the Studio Select Newport 2 has that problem (closer to the heel).

Please advise. Thanks
Cheers.
Dennis

ps. Agree. I have read a lot of good things about BOS on other forums. Even Lamont Mann (of Mannkrafted) says their refurbishing works is second to none. I used Lamont cause he was just starting out and it was more boutique (smaller outfit).. I wished SG has places taht could do the same services. Went as far as to search for gold, nickel and chrome electroplating in SG since its carbon. But I decided to go "raw" and bead blast only.

pss. Am not a Cameronaddo per se, but for this project (for my son), I am hunting down the perfect putter, that is timeless but does not cost like a Timeless Cameron ..

My first transact on golfwrx was with Lamont...before he started his refinishing business. He sold me 2 putters refinished by Byron Morgan and they are now in the hands of 2 forumers here.

All the Scottys are different? I have 3 NP mil specs that differ slightly in shape and a couple of NPs having totally diff feel despite being the same model. All my NP2s in pro plat and oil can are the same way too. If u wanna err on the safe side, I wud say yes the SS is nearer to the heel much like how a Del Mar or a JAT will feel.

If u want a nice putter to hang up, go with the one u like the look best but if u intend to game it, get those oil can ones as they are much softer. I never liked the feel of his stainless steel models.

Thanks so much for those insights. They are very helpful. Glad to know that u know Lamont, I have had a few Camerons done by him as gifts to close golf friends. A very kind (and patient) soul.

Like yourself, I dislike the Pro Platinum finishes and found them "harsh", nor did I like his stainless steel ones (in spite of TW using it for 13 majors). The exception is a American Classics III bullseye, which is in my bag in Manila. I bought a Custom Shop newly refinished AOP Coronado ( as something to pass on to my boy), and its feel is simply amazing! Since I cannot stamp his name on it (no bumpers), I started looking at the Newport classics for the same amazing feel (I may put the Coronado on sale soon as its too pretty to play!).
The project will be a gamer and it will be an oil can, and will be passed down from one golf nut generation to another.

Thanks again for your insights. I will put it up when (if) the project is finally (ever) completed.
Blessed weekend .
Dennis

U r welcome.

If you are giving Camerons to your friend....can I be ur friend too???? Laughing

I like the Pro Plats actually. Its still a carbon steel putter unlike the Studio Stainless designs onward. Unfortunately, I think only the Scotty Studio does a refinish on them with the original plating.

Check out this thread.

Also this one on a Coronado-type refinish by Scotty Studio.

Hahaha.. When you have beauties like those u have, u do not need friends like me. Anyways, its for close friends who are also godfathers to my kid. The Camerons are Futuras, those fugly things that are cheap on Flea Bay like US$40. One was all black (including the horseshoe, one in Lime that I suspect glows in the dark and is meant to blind opponents, and another in Bright Orange). In fact my gamer American Classics III (at 350g) cost me only US$60 was torched.

That is also a potential candidate (Mil Specs like yours at 340g) , but stripped then copper plated. (How I wished money grew on trees).

Its scary how many Cameroniados there are.. as in devoted ones. I joined TCC and its almost like a religion Shocked when it comes to dedication and devotion... .

Hi Cristel,
Sorry. But its at my parents place in Malaysia. Its a funny story, but I was so convinced that my first born was going to be a girl, that I looked for the prettiest putter for her (to be stamped Daddy's Girl and all and kept as a heirloom piece ), and thats how the Coronado (the first one not the Coronado 2) came into purchase. I did not know it was a refinished custom piece, until I received it and saw that it was brand new, the shaft was the micro bell shaft , brand new and a brand new pebble grip and to boot, a brand new AOP headcover too! I was lucky cause the pictures posted were not so good , and the product description was almost non chalant and not very detailed. I also bought a 2nd hand Sizemore XB1 limited edition only because it was voted most " pretty putter" in a nationwide contest on Golfwrx. . Both these were for my "girl". Tells u how demented & twisted we golfers minds can be.

I will get pictures when I visit my parents and put it up here ok? It will be at least a couple of months, most likely much more. I will notify you the moment I get pictures of them.

Cheers.
DEnnis

Hi,
Would like to seek advise from those who have send their putter to SC for restoration.. My friend gave me a Newport (2nd hand) but the conditions are not so eye pleasing to be exact. There are many dents/chips at the corners. My question is if I would to send it in for restoration, will those dents/chips be remove? Thanks.

Hi,

I sent a fren's SS for restoration, dents and all. Came back nice. And no fuss because the chap in MST did the shipping and arrangement for me. If you keen, just bring it to Far East MST, ask for Thomas (nice chap). He will tell you what to do.
