Hi Guys,

Thinking of changing my putter. Does anyone knows where I can get a ranking of the putters that are most commonly used on the PGA tour?

Was looking through the golfdigest gold list and found little inspiration.

Anyone has any recommendation on some of the putters I can look at? Thanks.

For Zen, go to big fish to try.

For Edel, go to Wizgolf.

My take.

Edel I tried before, the pricing is way off my budget. Its like $1.5K ?

As for Zen, heard many good things about it. Just one question, how come I hardly see it on the tour or am I missing something?

Financial clout and pressure by the big boys and some 25 affairs going on in the Tour.
Methinks.

Tour Players are paid/sponsor to carry the product. And the clubs are specially fitted for them. It's different from those you buy off the shelf even it's the same brand and model.

That's how most brands become so popular, branding and endorsement by Tour player.

Putter is alot more personal as compared to other clubs. Because of the nature of how a putter is used, I realize that the outlook and how it presents to you during setting up for a putt is important.

Of cos there will be other things like putter length, stiffness, grip type and size, offset, loft blar blar blar... but leave those headaches to the club fitter... first and foremost find the right putter head design and type of neck that best suits your eyes and feel.

With the right dosage of fitting from a good fitter, you will get the best possible putter for yourself. One that is ideal for your putting stroke rather than "Pro xxx in the PGA Tour say good... so it must be good... but why I cun sink my putts ah?"
scratch

What PGA top putter guide/ reviews.... nothing beats testing the club out yourself than to listen to those 90% marketing plots by manufacturers.

bro, my take

1. you need to know what you are really looking for when buying a new putter.
2. then go try out as many putter as possible or .....
3. select 1 or 2 brand and try out all their models until you are found what you are looking for

golf digest gold list can only use as a reference but whether does these putters suits you anot, that is one question

i know some putt well with Zen, some putt well with Edel, some with Scotty....etc etc

so, ultimately, u must go try them out with an open mind..good luck with your search !!

Okie... I was planning to test out the Zen Mallet type.

I know it may not be convenient to reveal pricing here. Can someone PM me the rough price I should be working with? I dont want to head there but realise that its too off my budget.

Thanks lots for all the advice so far.

My point of view , you need to know what is the feeling you want on the putter : hard , medium or soft. then the shape . then try it and see which one suit you best my pic will be zen or scotty cameron.

Putters is really personal.... brand is one thing and model is another. Really need to try...of course need to satisfy the psychological aspect...choose something that appeals to you 1st! Razz

Tried a brand of putter at Joe's & cost ard $400-$600. Forgottn the brand but unconventional design yet simple and nice feel....

bfg is open on saturdays...dun need to take leave.

They've got very good putting practice mats with tricky contours etc, you can test the zens head to head with your two ball odyssey.

Fengy, for Odyssey head to Pan-West. Ping you can head to Bishan Driving Range, can't remember the name of the pro-shop that carries the full range of Ping products. You can't miss it at the end of the driving range on level 2.

Thanks bird man! Been to bishan range but never noticed! And thanks for the link - very comprehensive. I have an old white hot #8 blade and looking for something with more weight. Have a straight back and through stroke and heard that mallets are better for that.

Ur welcome. If you still can't find it at Bishan range, just ask the staff there at the range counter.

In general yes, mallets are better for the type of stroke you play, but there are exceptions to the rule where putters and putting are concerned.

But the most obvious benefit of mallets with high MOI is that they are less resistant to twisting on impact, which helps to keep the ball on its intended line more so than other putters.

I feel the most mishits happen with the putter. It's got the smallest sweet spot of all the clubs yet is probably the least practised club in the bag next to the sand wedge. Inconsistent setup, alignment, and stroke, are also contributing factors.

So most golfers will benefit from a mallet, and that's evidenced by the explosive proliferation of mallet designs from every brand.

@BM, I couldnt agree more with regards to the mallet putter. My zen mallet has been progressively reducing my strokes by helping me with the following:
1- Easy to align the ball during set up.
2- Reduce misalignment during backswing and forward stroke.
3- increased confidence to make Putts ~ less than 10 feet.
4- Overall reduction of 3 putts. Had zero 3-putts in my last game.

However I still have trouble using the mallet on fast greens e.g >10 on stimp metre and gauging speed on long putts e.g more than 25 feet or so. For fast greens I find blade putters are more manageable. But of course its just me..
