my oh my
150m for 9i..
thats the distance for pros.
if i may say, dun say one is "average" if can hit 150m consistently, carry some more, range ball some more, and with GI irons..
sounds like beer talk to me
like i said, perhaps a few of us can get organized to drive or fly up to KL to have a game with Lee..
i mean, with my lousy golf, won't be much to brag..
but i would really LOVE to see Lee hit 150m with a 9i, range ball, and carry 150m
also i would really LOVE to see him to all those amazing shots as he has posted here in this forum
Lee, you just seem so knowledgeable with making good golf shots..

U got range finder?
Nope, but Roger Loo had one. We used it on the 150m sign before, and it came up slightly longer than 150m if memory serves.
In the Sunway range, the 150m sign is actually much longer. I'll try this weekend whether the 9 can carry that. Will take note of the wind, etc. I know my blade 8 iron carries that no problem.

I most welcome that.
What shots should I practice that you were referring to? Draw? Fade? Stinger?
For now, I'll just break out my slightly rusty MP52 9 iron and see what it can do now....

the best player i ever played with is our beloved Slinger
with his swing speed, he won't need to, and don't think he want to, make 150m with his 9i.
i think 135-140m he will be laughing to the bank liao

Me too.
Got a game tomorrow morning, gotta wake up early, but you guys kept me up well past my bedtime man.
But I enjoyed it. No hard feelings I hope.
Time to break out my dusty camcorder this weekend...
BTW, it was a long time ago, and with quite a different swing.
Just so happens, made a video around that time with that swing.
Posted this before, but to illustrate, here it is again. Yes, this is the funky looking swing that can carry 150m w 9 iron.

Eh... Not calling you bluff but i think with that swing speed to reach 150m on 9/8/7 would be near impossible unless you convert every ounce of energy to the ball through your swing.
Would love to see how you do it if that is true though.

Well, if it's a bluff, it would be pretty hard to maintain, since I've given the name of a pro who saw it, and a video of what that swing looked like then.
The simple fact of the matter is: de-loft.
Then it behaves more like a stronger iron.
Taylormade and others are using this trick to claim more and more distance in their irons when in fact, they are simply making the lofts stronger across the whole set of irons.
The tricky bit is the sequencing of the swing so that the impact is as pure as possible while the hands are way forward at impact.
This is impossible to achieve if like many beginners we are flipping our hands at impact. If we de-loft AND we flip, we are flipping the club head straight into the ground and risk breaking our wrists.
So, our friends who are dissatisfied with their distance will do well to check their left wrist geometry at and through impact.
So, no voodoo, just a bit of bio mechanics and physics.

i played w some1 who can hit 9i to abt 145-150m b4.... yup they do deloft the club alot...but thing is, the rest of the irons are not proportionate i wld say....even driver too...his driver only 220m max...
next i am curious to know, are we suppose to deloft the clubs when hitting? yes, at times maybe we need some low trac or punching shot bu for normal shot, why do e need to deloft? if yes, in the 1st place, why not u get a 9i or what ever irons to bend to the loft u prefer?
sorry, i m not any expert or good player but juz tht i dun understand or know if we really need to "deloft" so much for our shots?

Guys, despite being the one who practically started it, let's cut lee some slack.....hitting 150m with a 9i, while incredibly impressive and completely unattainable for me, is not unheard of and I'm sure there are others here who can do the same.......
I think what got everyone riled up is lee's claim that he can hit 200m with a 9i which he's already clarified was a typo.....
Lee, I don't think there's anything for you to prove......if you can do as you say, you can colour me impressed......with all your knowledge and passion for the game, i hope you can convert your swing mechanics into lower scores..........cheers!!!!

150 m with 9i is hard to believe unless I seen it with my own eyes. Thats definitely a pro distance.

Quite happening hor...was notified by a kaki of this discussion.
I played with lee, saw him hit some good shots and some bad shots. hes above average in distance. longer than me maybe by one club or slightly more. I did see him hit his 17 hybrid, over 200m, low shot with roll. I need my 15 deg wood to hit that distance. But unfortunately i didnt see him hit 9i 150m or driver to 260m. Driver slightly over 220 lah. Maybe he was just holding back as some say, in a game you wouldnt hit 100%. I dunno his true potential, maybe he's saving it for Slinger's visit to KL
Have i represented u well lee?
Good nite folks.

At least, don't FLIP (not suggesting that you do). That is a big no-no. It leads to chicken wing, injury, inconsistencies, etc.
Deloft slightly is better than no deloft with a flip.
I find I get more control. Else it becomes like a lob shot.
By the way, you can both deloft AND hit a high shot. The shot goes further too.
Golf is a glorious puzzle isn't it?

Very gracious of you. I apologies for the mix up about the 5 iron.
Yes, working hard on the swing, and hoping and expecting the score to show it soon.
Thank you.

Good nite folks.
Panji,
Very nice of you to drop by.
Yes, quite a good representation, thank you.
Some correction if I may, it was an 18 degree hybrid, not 17 (Adam did not make a 17 deg loft for that Pro Black hybrid.)
But other than that, very well written, even left some room for mystery...
That was my first and probably last time playing at Tropicana. Too expensive on the price/value scale for my budget!

Just occurred to me, on some american golf forums, they would not even blink at these distances. But they will fight tooth and nail over the latest swing science discoveries and different philosophies or theories. And quite a number of them are PhD holders. Some are even literally retired rocket scientists!
