| Lee, the difference is This forum has a bias towards practicality I.e. scoring. Scores make the golfer, not his swing. That is why we talk a lot about handicaps, scores and strokes. They are practical. Guess this is the Singapore way, right? Pragmatism | |

Bro, Easy for you to talk la, you are already long, i've seen your shots. In this forum, I see a lot of equipment buying and swapping. Next is a lot of stroke bargaining, and it's counterpart, hiding your true handicap. If so focused on scoring, perhaps a better alternative would be to focus on lowering the handicap rather than asking for strokes. Ya think? Hardly anything on what to use the equipment for, ie. the swing. Lots of "I hit 110m with 7 iron, how am I doing?" "Not bad, not bad, keep it up" I am exaggerating. A bit. Maybe. Liddat how to improve? What is that Sporean saying my classmates liked to use? KNS? Thot I'd stir things up a bit by saying what an average golfer like me can carry with a plain ol 9 iron. Get people thinking a bit. Are they swinging correctly? Should they got coaching? Should they change their coach? Whatever. That was the intent. Not bragging. Just think a bit la, about what is possible, in between buying new clubs. Well, one thing for sure. It sure got noticed, didn't it?

| I can't represent all but from my observation only: Many folks do improve here, I've seen it myself, including myself. A little bit through theory discussion, but mostly thru friendly competition, matches between ourselves (league challenge etc) pushing each other. We engage coaches thru lessons on theory part, again a very practical approach. This forum has some but only few faceless keyboard heroes compared to a global forum, bcoz many people actually know each other and play together. Strokes discussion is a part of any weekend golfers' tcss with competitive juices.
Talk abt improving, E.g. We'd suggest to work on short game and putting. This would be a typical practical approach in this forum. Less obsessing abt the swing up to a certain point. I know u probably get a kick more from a flushed shot with a blade than trying to scramble for a par. Do u see the diff? more variety hor. Good discussions.
Peace... | |

| Need to check if your 9-Iron loft is really 9-Iron.
Sometimes when you beginner.. you zhum the floor so much the loft zhao ki.
That is why they call them "Forged" irons. The loft maybe faked..

| And to be honest... I myself sometimes mistake my 6-iron for my 9-iron. My brother can attest to that... I "smashed" one "9"-iron shot 150m also .. although it went off the back of the Par-3 into the lake behind, I still turned and walked ya-ya-papaya back to the bag. In my mind I was visualising imaginary crowd of people cheering my name Buweeza Buweeza !... untill I put the "9 Iron" back into the bag and saw another 9-iron sitting there.. *Guah Guah Guah* Back to the lab again... | And I must add that it would be great to just achieve consistency and distance similar to LPGA star like Yani and she is considered a long hitter on LPGA.

| I know it's been said before but I'd trade distance for accuracy any given day. Fascination with distance etc. is normal but unless you're hitting your shots consistently, can get them straight and can generally shape your shots, distance shouldn't be a key focus.
But I suck at the game so take my thoughts with a bucket of salt.

Bro, the loft of a 9i is so much different from a 6i. A 9i looks very much like a PW. If you mistook 9i with a 7i, perhaps it makes more sense ...

| This Thread is a juicy read and very thought provoking! Just wanna seek some clarification from some of the folks here.
When a person found a technique to hit the ball further and wrote about his distance, which, in Lee's case, is quite long compared to some folks here, he gets negative comments. Let's look at it from a different perspective, using a training aid that is POSITIVELY AND HIGHLY recommended through this forum:
TOURSTRIKER
For those who have bought it, please help enlighten me.
1. Why did you buy it in the first place? 2. Did you practice with it on a CONSISTENT BASIS? 3. If you did, did your distance improve? Did your overall ball striking improve? 4. If you didn't, why did you stop practicing with it?
Did a little research through this forum by searching "Tourstriker"
Folks who have owned it were:
Khokar, Pushslice, supermaninunder, JonL_TK, eiji, TourSwing (I gain 10-15m across the bag thanks to this great product), slinger, Slicer51..... just to name a few.
The thread link:
http://www.golfrepublic.org/t12449-tourstriker?highlight=tourstriker Go to Page 2.... Kian commented and pasted a trackman read of 159.9m carry on a 7i tourstriker hit by his "shifu" Who is it ah?
Well, from what I understand, the tourstriker teaches the golfer to deloft the club to gain better contact and thus a longer distance.
What that means is if you are not hitting your 7 iron 159.9m or more, you can still do it by LEARNING how to swing and deloft your club MORE EFFICIENTLY, which I believe Lee has done.
He took the effort to study and learn and apply this, which explains why he confidently says that his MP52 9i can achieve 150m carry.
It is possible.
It is possible if you do it correctly and put in the time in practicing the correct technique.
I know for a fact that Lee goes to the range on a daily basis, hitting at least 300 to 500 balls a day. He works hard on his swing. In fact, I KNOW for a fact that he is the hardest working golfer that I know. He puts in the effort.
Please bear in mind that a good swing that produces long distances does not directly correlate to low scores. Shooting low scores depends on a lot of facets of the golf game, which encompasses some areas which Lee may not be good at.
Bottomline, if you are only hitting 110m with a 7 iron and shooting in the 80s and am happy with it, GREAT!
If you are not happy and want to increase your distance, understand the correct technique and practice hard! I am sure that achieving Lee's distance is easily attainable!
It is your choice.

| bro Denmeister, First. I do not own a tourstriker. I only tested it at trackman. I personally use a drill taught to me by a coach, which is to hit a ball placed outside my left feet with an iron. It's almost the same effect as tourstriker. Improved my iron play, more penetrating launch but did not gain significant distance bcoz my swing speed is the same. Thus, Second, that it's not just about delofting the club (dynamic loft). It's also about high swing speed and quality of impact (center hit/smash factor). Third, someone who gained 10-15m but from a low starting point (e.g. scooping the ball) is different to someone who can beat tour averages. Our swing speed is not there, except for a few. Maybe Lee is one of those few. Must see to believe hor

| My wedge goes 100m on average. However, there are times when I hit the ball slightly thin and it at a lower trajectory to 120-130m. This is not a "topped" shot, it happens because the leading edge of my club face strikes the ball somewhere towards the middle and the ball doesn't catch the proper loft of my club.
If I hit my wedge 100m, I call it a good shot. If I hit it 120-130m, I call that a bad shot.
So if I have to manually "train" myself to de-loft my 9-iron to hit a 150m shot, is that a good shot or bad shot? Why not just use 7-iron instead?
If de-lofting a 9-iron and hitting 150m gives that ego boost feeling, why not just sand paper off the numbering on the 6-Iron and put it as a 9? Instead of manually delofting your 9 into a 6. Why the need to go round-a-bout?
If you are hitting your 9-Iron 150m without de-lofting the club, then that's a different story altogether.

| i see my name being mentioned as a tourstriker user. Yeah, thats right! haha.. but honestly, i have only used it about 3-5 times on the range? i'll proceed to answer your questions accordingly 1. Why did you buy it in the first place? I wanted to improve my ball striking and reduce the number of topped/duffed shots i made on the course. 2. Did you practice with it on a CONSISTENT BASIS? haha.. nope unfortunately 3. If you did, did your distance improve? Did your overall ball striking improve? i dunno about distance (i was once asked a question: which excites you more, hitting a bomb off the tee that lands in the centre of fairway or an approach shot that lands near the pin. my answer is the latter. i'd rather stick it close to pins) but i must say that my subsequent games' ball striking did improve BUT i was getting my clubhead stuck in the ground, unable to do a full follow through.. haha.. elbow pain, wrist pain.. maybe i hit down too much.. heh.. Disclaimer: i do not know if it had anything to do with the tourstriker, but i'm just giving an honest account of the game or two i've had after my short while with the tourstriker. 4. If you didn't, why did you stop practicing with it? was undergoing a swing change and i thought i wanna be more stable in my changes before i start work on the tourstriker again. i will resume practice with it soon. I hope this helps answer your question from a tourstriker buyer/user point of view. At least from me. | |
