What prompted you to take up golf?

With its image as a 'high class sport' (although we know that golf isn't a ridiculously expensive hobby, compared to... Say, Photography), what really prompted you to pick up the sport?

Personally I picked up this sport cos its relatively cheap to learn it in Bangkok (without all the PC exams you'll need to take) and for health reasons. I did read an article that golf is one of those sports that can really burn plenty of calories!

How about you? Same reasons or just want to pick up to sar kar your bosses at the course?

i picked up the sport bcoz many of my colleagues/peers in the industry seemed to be playing golf and I did not want to be left behind in the conversation. Being good at basketball didnt seem to be valuable

So I hired a pro, bought set of old irons and went to the range. Once I was able to hit a flush iron shot and looked at the ball flight, I was hooked and it was not about keeping up with folks anymore, it's about repeating that feeling.

Golf is frustrating if we cant swing decently...and orgasmic if we can hit flush shots, especially with a forged iron 150m away and the ball stops after one hop 3 feet from the hole! Problem is, you do it only every once a while...the rest are duffs, tops, shanks and slices.

For me, it was preparing myself for the day when I cannot play football anymore so Thot of giving golf a try.
It was also due to my peers telling me what a great game it was and I had a negative perception to this game.
Thot of it as an old man's game. Oops.....sorry.

But after getting inducted into this game, I am so hooked on it and damn, tis is really a precise and trying game which takes a lot of hard work to master.......



..........so I remain as a SB till now, hoping to learn more from experienced bros here.

If I do take up golf that is becos of the kakis here.


But alas, as to date, based on my std,....I really stilll hv not consider myself taking up golf yet....more like landscaping specialization.

My flatmate bought a $10 driver from an Isetan sale. After that, I felt obliged to use it... one of the most expensive days of my life.

My boss passed me $100 Golf House vouchers...the rest like they say is history

Always tot golf is old man's game and is too expensive ( still think it can be cheaper) and hence never cross my mind to pick up golf until last year when I went to driving range with a friend. He explain that golf can be affordable and I can always hit balls at the range for a couple of dollars.

One year down the road, i have spend thousands of dollars on golf ( lesson, equipment, range, green fees) , countless of hours looking at GR forum and eBay, but still a golf beginner, I love the game and hope that my golf skill will match the level of passion I have for the game.

Ps: hope to say good bye to 4k shots for good.

As for me, a charbor ... hmmm .... I was introduced to this game many years ago and I liked it very much. But at that time, had other commitments, so didn't start (though a friend offered to sponsor me to take up beginner course ).

Then this year, I made a resolution to pick up a new sport.
I decided on diving (though I do not know how to swim to save my life!!) but could not find any kaki. And also fortune book says this year I cannot 'touch water'!!!

Met a friend who's playing this game. He urged me to go for the course ... and so .... yah ...

See lah .. charbor sibei lor sor ... kekeke .....

So you believe???

Anyway, I seriously love this game.
Pray my 'tennis elbow' will heal fast fast so I can go back to range and TRAIN for the next trip to the course!!! Wooohooo~~~~

hmm... i always tot golfing was fun... so after dating mike... we talk about playing golf... so mike brought is rusty old set of golf irons and we just head to range.... the rest were history

Time to start going all crazy on the 18-hole fellas.

A yearly personal challenge. There's only two sport which i can't bear watching on TV. it's cricket and golf. So told myself to try one of the sport and enroll into an introductory class for golf and have been hooked to it eversince. Got my handicap after 5 mths ago. . So I guess that I've fulfilled my goal for this year. Next year............hmmmmm cricket????? Let me think first and enjoy golf.

all along i thought golf is an expensivve game till i followed my friend who is crazy about cycling to a bicycle shop.

so called better bicycles cost S$6-8k and there are better ones.

some even buy modules and assembled their own bikes and this will cost more!

True! I know a pilot friend who spends 30k on a mt bike, customizing every little parts!

got my first eagle yesterday evening... unfortunately it is in a indoor golf facility so no count...

nonetheless, pulling out an iron, swing it through and seeing the ball fly nicely onto the target is a kind of satisfaction that you rarely find in another sports.

i guess this is what keeps me going in golfing...

For me, it's mainly for work and got influenced by my golf crazy Jap colleagues. Been playing soccer and swimming all my life so going to the course is definitely a refreshing change.

I find golf real interesting;

1) You can play well for 1 day at the course, but sucks big time for the next. It's not possible to replicate every good shots, day in, day out.

2) To me, golf is just as mentally challenging as physically demanding. I'm more interested in pitting my mental skills against the course and elements...

And who says golf burn calories? The amount of beer intake during and after the game piles everything back on!

he was running around in the house shouting to let us know that he got a hole in one.
