Many have different views of whether one should start with game improvement club or whatever club….

So here I am….and just wanting to share my experience and by no means having any intention to convince or sway anyones views.

Background:

I was previously using a Game Improvement Club till very recent, where I switched to one of the MP-series ….fm the advert, this is supposedly for mid to low HCP….so cant deny it as there was hesitation as to whether am I capable to handle the irons….considering the many marketing advert about who should use what and what should be for who.

My view ...and view only:

To be fair to the club and also any newbie, based on a Seasoned beginner standard, I can find my way to the green lah… sometimes not very slow ...and sometimes (quite frequent on 17th), took abit longer…hahahah

My first 2 games with only 1 range session were quite surprising and comforting. The only diff I felt was that I need to be more diligent in my setup as in where to place my ball as compared to my previous irons where I was pretty non-chalant in this aspect….I do find that the ball also does not roll off that much …not sure why but maybe because of the focus on contact by being more diligent, I actually hit it cleaner.

Fm a feel perspective, of the 2 games, I think I gotten only one ‘orgasm’ as one associate with forged irons….hahahah…was with a 6 iron..(ok...it sound abit wrong...but you know what I meant fm golfing perspective)

In conclusion…..there are 2 conclusions; #1 Don read too much into the advert…..try out and make the gauge then…..and #2 …very importantly, if I can….you can too.

Duval, you really took the words right out of my keyboard!!!

I just switched to R9 TP Forged (5-PW), and only went range with them on xmas eve. Played on Xmas and Boxing Day... have to say I am extremely pleased with the results.

I was playing with game improvement irons (X22 Tour), and the last time I hit a ball prior to this was in November. So the intimidation I felt at the range while addressing for the first time was as bad as competition jitters.

So - chicken or egg? Do you improve to single handicap before switching to players' clubs?

I am still not sure either, but all I can say is it has to be iterative, and hopefully one will lead to improving the other.

For me, I am striving to be worthy of my set and for the past 2 days, things are certainly looking up. Smile

I am a weekend hacker... also thought i should stick to Game Improvement irons, such as TM Burner, Mizuno MX series.. etc

however when i tried the R9 Forged irons during the demo 2 weeks back, it felt right and I was able to find the sweet spot just as easily as burner v2. Just that it gives more feedback.

its was more intimidating at first as the club face was smaller and no chunky sole.

Wonder if anyone can commend on this (on a professional level)?

Thank you.

did my switch from R7 CGB Max to MP-68.
Game is still ok, not much change to be honest. it does takes a while to get used to, but I did tried it out a few times before the purchase so it wasn't much of a surprise.

I think forged iron is made so much friendlier these days that it becomes easier to use for hitting straight.

Shaping shot and consistent sweet spot is another matter entirely.
