| May be its just me, I try not to take strokes even if I play with a person that I know I will likely lose. Its not about perception or ego, its just that I want to improve myself and challenge myself to better. That why I always lose $$$$..... | |

Is it fair that a person who score 84 only gives 3-3 to the person who scored 106? It depends on how the person normally shoot 106.
Does he double n triple every other hole or is just prone to the occasional big number?
Giving strokes is a way meant to level the competition. If u r taking it just to get into a comfort zone, will u feel shiok winning from the guy who gave u?
Unless one has no wish to improve one's game even after playing for a period of time, one shd always take less to challenge himself. Asking for the same ridiculous high number day in day out serves no purpose but to just stagnate one's game.
That's why playing w ppl like Mowen is fun. From giving him 4-4 to 3-3 n now level, he has shown vast improvement n which ever way the money goes, it's sure to be a fun clean exciting game. Well said... But too lopsided also not fun... For the loser...

That's the number of strokes per nine. So, for 2-2, it means that you get 2 strokes for each 9. You may also see 0-1-2. This is where the strokes are given based on the par of the holes, i.e. par 3 - par 4 - par5. So, 0-1-2 means that you get 0 strokes for the par 3s, 1 stroke for the par 4s and 2 strokes for the par 5s. HTH.

| some ppl can get bogey, par or even birdie but often blow holes, especially par 5s, so the total score will be high.... so sometime looking at avg score is not a good indicative of how many strokes to give.....some ppl consistent bogey/par but very seldom birdie and get a decent overall score but still can lose to one who is avg 10-15 higher overall score, especially if given a generous no of strokes.

| giving strokes can be use for
1) matchplay
2) strokeplay
if the difference in skill level is vast, usually the not-so-good player will insist on matchplay, n usually the better player will understand n accept....
the latter usually involve players with similiar scores....

| @Duffader: bro, Kranji is a full day affair lah, my leave is running out liao so can't join. For Warren, I can take half day but if I buy putter means can't afford to play. Anyway, you guys enjoy yourself... | |
