U won't get dist from a punch shot. To me, it's more of a safety shot to have, when u are in trouble in the rough, laying up or ur game is breaking down.

Bro, agreed I have a same though too. However, I would still like to try out the so called knockdown shot and see whether I can put it off and see the different between 2 shots Rolling Eyes

Knockdown shot is fun... When I do succesfully, it feels very solid. But I can do it only 4/10.

Bro, I do not think we really use this knockdown shot much, do we ? I do not feel much strong wind over in Indonesia and I presume there none in Singapore or Malaysia, although have not play there yet ?

Yes. But I have to use it when I go back Indonesia and only carry 7 clubs in my Sunday bag.
I also use it in driving range to kill boredom.

But in the course at SG and MY, full swing all the way...

Do any of you fight a hook problem when playing a knockdown or punch shot?

I am not sure what is the terminology, but when I need to play a low shot to avoid branches, I play the ball very much to the back foot and deloft the club (i.e. hands at normal position, but ball way back in stance). I align the club face in the direction where I want to go ... it most starts in the correct direction, but has a fierce hook.

I currently just aim way right to allow for the hook (quite useful to get around trees also) but not really sure why it is happening ... any comments please?

For me, punch shot is usually low fade or straight. I put ball position very back in my stance but my weight stays back on my right foot.

Derek,

I do not know why but my hand was more forward, rather in normal position and try not to swing or punch up higher than 3 o'clock in my follow through ... ball go straight and do not know which way when it start to hit the ground and start rolling Embarassed
