Driver's Loft, what should it be?

How should we know what is a good driver's loft for us?
My ball fight is relatively low and spin rate is about 3200 with a 1.47 smashed factor and about 93mph head speed.
Currently I am using 9.5deg, thinking of changing to 10.5 or even higher.

Any advice?

i think it dpends on your launch angle, but the best person to advise would be a clubfitter with a launch monitor.

well, actually some prefer low ball flight, it really depend on individual.

shaft kick point also plays a part. a low kick point would help in launching the ball too...

3200 rpm is too high for a driver. Ideally should be around 2500 rpm, and you are losing distance with that sort of spin rates.

if your launch angle is pretty low, or if your swing is pretty flat, you'd be surprised how well you'd do with an 8.5* head. I personally am staying away from higher lofted drivers for now and they tend to launch too high, get caught by the wind above the treeline, and I lose accuracy and distance. With the 8.5* heads I have been using recently, I'd getting decent distance (around 270-280 yds) with good roll (around 30 yards)

the guys are right - eliminate guesswork, get fitted on a Trackman. I'm glad I did, and haven't looked back since

I am not sure of my launch angle, but carry about 200m +/- only.
My tempo is slow. DGMAN any comments?

Swing speed, ball speed, smash factor (1.47 isn't bad, shows that you're compressing the ball wall, probably hitting the sweetspot), launch angle and spin rates.

Not sure where DGman is, suspect he is very busy concocting the next batch of poison for us

I am prepared to swallow my ego to move down to a more forgiving specs.
I always love playing blade, but switch to a Honma cavity set lately.
Tested the iron set without any woods and played a 3 over for nine holes at keppel.
That kept me thinking of moving to a higher lofted driver.

i also like forgiving, but i cannot tahan thick toplines or seeing the cavity or offset. I was lucky that jurongtiger let me try his Nike VR cavity back irons yesterday and I think that they are pretty good -- thin topline, cannot see cavity, hit damn straight, go damn far, and it's nice and forgiving.

But if you ask me, the difference in distance is not that much, and even though I think that the VRs would help my game, I'm just reluctant to move away from blades since my mishits are not heavily penalized.

Now, going back to the 8.5* driver. I used to drive only 200m, and used to think that more loft = more distance. So goes the myth. I tried different shaft-head combos and lofts, and guess what I realized?

1. find the loft that suits your swing type.
2. find the shaft that suits your swing speed/type
3. you want spin rates to be around 2500 rpm
4. invest in one or two lessons with a good coach

By right, (4) should come before (1) to (3)...

SBH...since you know some of your stats...do you know whats the maximum height of your drive...if you don't launch it in the 25 metres range, you are no optimising your drives.

your head speed of 93 mph is in a peculiar zone where you may actually benefit from a 10.5 degree head. you may get more penetration (hence lower spin) as a result. from your smash factor, it seems that you may occasionally have the tendency to hold back your release.

there are many launch monitor out there and each will give you a different spin rate. even the same machine with different software version can generate different data.

By the way, I just got another 2 R510 TPs that will need Kajiki shafts (same spec as the one you installed on mine)

When I used to play competitive tennis years ago and was sponsored by Yamaha and Pacific, I used to have 7 rackets in the bag, all same model, 3 different string tensions, with one backup per combo.

Eh, you guys of all people should know what it's like when you find a driver that works for you. Die die don't want to switch, plus since I shuttle between SG and Dubai, I don't want to have to carry my 'good' driver up and down since drivers and fairway woods are the easiest clubs for the airlines to break...
