| this bird's fist so scary... dun dare to chase... Yuki, location of the range depends on whether u going there from workplace or from home. since u r asking abt bishan, guess u stay or work ard there. if location is the highest priority, juz choose one from there. guess all of them should be good enough to teach the basic. go there learn and go. simple... unless u looking for a husband as a coach | |

i would recommend Allen Kelly aka Shorthitter at Laguna. he is my second coach, i feel that i learn much more from him than my previous coach. Swing wise and distance wise i have improve under his teachings. Do talk to a few of coaches or students of the coaches before deciding. Hi there, I'm interested in going for lessons at Laguna as well....does the lessons include a PC Test? THanks..

tink self-taught and taking advice from friends will stay for awhile before i source out tat ideal coach i wan... Agree with birdman. Better to start right rather than to change bad habits, which is more difficult. Also, as one doc mentioned, better to pay for golf lessons than to pay medical bills for golf injuries. Since there are so many newbies, why not "chio" a group of "beginners" and get group lessons, which will be cheaper.

| I think David Leadbetter's video "From Beginner to Winner" might help for those who want to DIY first. I find his tips very effective especially in this video. :-) | |

| Yuki,
I am considering to look for a coach to get myself started somewhere too!
Considered Chelliah (coaching in Executive Golf Cse) and Peter Lim (Bukit Batok Golf Range) so far. Anyone knows him and/or got any opinions to share?
Actually anyway is fine becos to me getting the right one is more important. Let me know if you happen to find one to recommend OR if u lack kaki to form a group of newbies for group lesson.

more videos to watch apart from my online drama... Careful when learning from video, esp as beginner. Cos you may not understand the concepts and execute correctly. There are a lot of things that are not readily visible with the naked eye when the swing is in motion, like where your weight is at different points in the swing. Among a lot of other things. A coach is experienced and knows the common mistakes to look out for with students. He is your mirror, which you will not have just be learning from video. Video helps, but does not replace a coach.

CK Poor BT, he was dying during our round together at the TM launch. Never seen him play so bad before, he wanted to stop when we finished the 18th hole, and we still had 2 holes to go. He just doesn't practice enough, glad he's doing that now. Me, I played my career round that day, could be the new Penta ball. But I'm still a work in progress.

| Birdman, It may be a result of too many GP booze events, and not enuff sleep for BT. I played as badly as I used to three years ago at an informal tournament last February--gross 113 from the white tees at SICC's Old Course. Even worse than the gross 106 from the blue tees during the Acushnet media day at Laguna. Could not stay in the fairways from the tees, and the putts just did not want to go into the holes--many rim-outs! We are all NOT getting younger, U know. I cannot party all night and booze it up like I did when I was in my 20 - late 30s. Nowadays, a spot of tea at 4pm, a few buttered scones and to bed by 10pm is my habit. CK | |
