Advice for Golf in New York end May 2010

Folks,

Need advice on golf in NYC as I am planning to go there for biz in last weeks of May. Can anyone please help on the following queries:

(1) Weather - I believe it should be Spring Time. Is the weather still ok for golfing? courses still open?

(2) Course availability - I believe they have plenty of public courses, can you recommend? How to go about booking (for 1 ball join flight)? Green fees?

(3) Equipment - do you recommend to lug my clubs along or just go there and rent?

(4) Any other consideration / advice

went NY for my honeymoon...play some golf there with my wife

1) weather: please check local forcast, weather nowadays bit freakish

2) we went NJ visit old fren n play 2 rounds, one private, the other muni, cant remember the name though, but cost abt US$50-70 with buggy (wkday), very nice course, my ball roll for abt 50 yards after the carry, as for joiing join, think u need to call the club in advance to check availability but for muni courses, think can play 1 ball

3) on hindsight, i would not recommend carrying your clubs unless u have transportation to the course, cos we have tough time lugging our clubs along everywhere we go, unless u are playing more than 2 rounds n pretty certain u are not moving around NYC

4) we went in Spring, but it was a bit chilly cos of the wind.....

If I could recommend something, u gotta have the porterhouse at Peter Luger off Brooklyn Bridge or at BLT - Bistro Laurent Tourondel. Sorry bro , all I do in NY is munching those USDA prime dry aged steaks. Coz Spore still ban US beef with bones

I would oso spend half a day at Golfsmith at Lexington Ave, try as many clubs with their launch monitor.

I think GolfDigest site has a ranking of courses by state. Golf Magazine's as well. Car rental is your best transport mode.

Why not go for the stars? Bethpage Black is not far. Relive the US open!

If you cant get slot at Black: Red, Green, Yellow and Blue is available. I'm coming in December..too cold for golf, just nice for a day indoor at Golfsmith
