| What kind of changes are you planning to do to your swing? | |

| I was doing a reverse pivot and putting pressure on my lower back on the follow through like reverse "C" finish. I have been advise to correct my set up and turn. It felt better after my first session already. Also shots were better. Get your swing analyed by video and you will be shock in slow motion what you will see happening to your body. Coach says this is a common cause of injuries to golfers. Good luck bro and take care of your back. | |

| Yeah I will be going back to my coach for intermediate course soon. Waiting for my friend to grad from his beginner course. Golf is really a great game that can be enjoyed even when I am old. Must carefully take care of my body! LOL. | |

I just completed my PC and trains once a week in Bishan. I trained with 500 balls every time I hit the range. Now I reduce to 400 and it is getting better. If you are not already doing so, may I suggest to warm up thoroughly before, and cool down gradually after the session. What might help, if not being done already, is to go through a full preshot routine, including picking a target, before every ball. That will help pace the shots making it easier on the body. After all, we don't hit shot after shot repeatedly on the course, Do you mean muscle soreness, sprain or an actual muscle tear? If it's an actual tear, ouch, my sympathies. Rest and recover well. With a muscle tear, it'd be probably painful to even lift your arms, never mind swing a club, so do take good care and recover properly. If it's muscle soreness, sounds like you are loading the body more than it can recover. So, either pace it down, or give it more days in between sessions to recover. It pays to take measures to stay healthy so we can enjoy this wonderful game for many years to come.

| Most important thing to me is to stretch for 5-10 mins before any game, to loose all joints and tendons. Next is to swing your clubs naturally and not hit your balls with brute force.
I'm almost 60 years old, play 3 times a week on average, and sometimes on consecutive days. Last week I played 6 games in 6 days in 3 countries, and although some of my back muscles felt tightened after each game, there is no sharp pain. A good night's rest will return my back to normal for next morning's game, and I still outdrive my kakis who are in their 40s. I don't use any koyok or snake oil, or pain killers. Never tried acupuncture either.
I agree with some here that if you swing your clubs correctly and naturally, there should not be any pain playing golf. Not even your wallets, because you can fetch a lot of free lunch playing well.
Golf can be as natural as sex - have you heard of anyone hurting his back having sex? Not often, unless you are trying some unnatural stances, reading too much Kamasutra.

No offence, Kengnam, but 'get used to it' is ATROCIOUSLY POOR advice. Yeoyc, very good that you took the step to see a coach and fixed your swing. Not only has it improved your shots, it's improved your health by reducing the injuries your old swing was causing. Here's the message again. If you hurt after golf, chances are, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR SWING. If you think, "I'm smart, I'll teach myself the swing." Here's the truth. Probability of self-mastering the swing - very very small% Probability of self-injuring in the process - almost 100% And even if you quit golf in frustration after that, the injuries will remain. So... Not my intention to cause offence, but if the following describe you (for a guy): 1. pain after golf or driving range session 2. driver way below 200m 3. 7 iron never approached 150m 4. tried to hit as hard as you can, ball only sliced or hooked more 5. lead wrist hurts from all the flipping 6. lead ankle hurts from all the twisting 7. lower back hurts from the follow through 8. upper back, left shoulder blade hurts from pulling up in the followthrough 9. left or right or both elbows hurt If some or all of the above apply to you, then face it buddy, something is wrong with your swing. You have two choices: a. "I'm only a social golfer. Why see a coach." - Fine, then you'll be a social golfer for only a short time, and spend the rest of your life suffering from the injuries you pick up, especially in your old age when it rains. Do you really want to "get used to" all that pain? b. Do the smart thing like Yeoyc above and SEE A COACH.Pain from golf is not something you get used to. It is your body telling you, you are doing something wrong. Listen to it.

Pain from golf is not something you get used to. It is your body telling you, you are doing something wrong. Listen to it. Agree with you on all those points Lee except the 7 iron 150m. I assume you are talking carry distance

Pain from golf is not something you get used to. It is your body telling you, you are doing something wrong. Listen to it. Agree with you on all those points Lee except the 7 iron 150m. I assume you are talking carry distance Ha ha. Yes, carry distance. Good job fixing up Yeoyc btw. Without intention to offend anyone, I was making a point that for anyone reasonably young or early middle age and fit, getting 7 iron to carry 150m or close to it should not be a big problem. There was a thread asking about iron distances, and some of the comments in trying to be encouraging were saying, 130m for 7 iron is ok, acceptable. But now, judging from the number of injury postings nowadays, I'm inclined to think, a short short distance may actually indicating a serious swing flaw that is both robbing distance and causing injury. So, instead of accepting it as being ok, it might be a sign to start looking for a coach, esp if it is also causing some pain. Peace.
