The loft that gives you the best carry+roll combination.

You might want to try all the lofts or get an expert fitter's advice.

I'm using the exact same driver with you bro. Stiff 09 Burner 10.5, but it has served me well so far.

Try to tee off slightly lower so unlike the normal 460cc driver which theory said to have 3/4 ball on top of the driver or higher. I lowered it down to have 1/2 ball only... This is because (in my opinion) even burner has 460cc, it has thinner but wider head...

I believe 10.5 is still the good loft for most amateur golfers like us...

Hey,

Driver degree loft depends on what level of skills you are now.

Simply put, are you a novice? a Mid Handicapper?
If you are, usually a 10.5* for Men and 11* or 12* degree for Lady Golfer.

My wife started at 11* and she is now using a 9.5* driver.
While I started at 10.5* and am now using 9.5* or 9*

If you are still a newbie/novice, your swing is still erratic, swing tempo & swing timing is still struggling...so a higher degree loft is recommended to achieve "length".

It is like shooting an arrow. An arrow can "fly" farther if it is launched in a higher trajectory.
Now, if your Golf swing is already "Moulded"...

You can try visit a Clubmaker, like DGMan, and get properly fit using their Launch monitor to gain the desire length based on your swing speed.

Your current 10.5 sounds good. Work with it for a while longer Smile

Bro,
I think it's the optimal one for you - at least for now. Don't change the driver yet... it's a good one...

Hey,

Everything depends on how "confident" and your skills is...for now.

I have a few friends who are single handicappers and is using a high lofted driver.
One is using a G5 12* loft and one of them is using a 10.5*

You start losing distance if launch too high.... try shooting at 90 degrees to ground... distance = zero

Sounds maybe a swing off an iron shot.
It's diiferent swing for irons and driver.
Most of the players suffer distance bocs of this as it will generate more loft and backspin on the ball.

i think its a swing issue and it is something that you can easily verify.

1. check your driver, do you have marks on the top of your driver?
2. go to a fitter with launch monitor and look at your angle of attack, is it too steep?
3. go to a coach that uses video and have a look at your swing.

i would suggest that you do it before you rush out to buy a driver.
personally, i think a 10.5* burner is a v. good driver.

if it is really a swing issue then i would suggest that you save the money (driver) and get it sorted first (lessons).
that would give you more distance and consistency as compared to a new driver.

my 2 cents.

Most of the time, for competent golfers...the club head speed will pre-determine the loft of the driver that will produce the optimal ball flight.

the other consideration is the golfers preference in set up. Most people feel that a 28 meters high ball flight is too high but it will actually maximise your carry and total distance.

a golfer with a swing speed of under 90 mph clubhead speed should avoid a 8.5 degree or lower lofted driver. However a golfer with a 105 mph clubhead speed can still use a 10.5 degree loft driver with a high kick shaft and achieve optimal performance.

there are many other considerations but competence level is the key factor before fitting and equipment selection.

As mentioned, there are many variables as to why your tee shot is too high, to list them all may confuse you. I will also be confused.

As each person's swing is fingerprinted as his own, what some can advise is from their own perspective, sound advice as it may be.

You can either search for the answer to your question by trial and error, as some of us here do, myself included over the years; or do it by science and analysis via a swing coach coupled with a session on a swing analyzer such as trackman. The coach can tell you if your angle of approach is too steep resulting in your high shots, and the clubfitter can tell you via the data if your swing and ball speed, spin rate, and launch angle is optimum for the driver you are using, for the swing that you have.

If you don't want to change your swing, then a change of equipment through a fitting session to help you bring your numbers to optimum is the way to go, up to a point.

If you want to change your swing, then you might want to hold on to your current driver for the moment to see if a new improved swing might better serve your needs. After that, a session with a clubfitter for further optimisation would be ideal. But don't be surprised if sometimes the clubfitter tells you no need to change any equipment.

Whatever you decide, take it a step at a time. Searching for too many answers at the same time will just confuse you as to what to do. Golf is a complicated enough game, so you have to determine if it's the equipment, you, or a combination of both, then you can walk down the enlightened path when you come to the decision making crossroads.
