Am heading up north to Phan Thiet for a golfing weekend. Will provide a report and see if it is worth the 5 hour drive up.....

BTW, as Ramadan is about to start and with all due respect to my muslim friends, there will be no Avatars or Signatures till after Hari Raya.

Update on Oceans Dunes Golf Course.

http://www.phanthietresorts.com/htmls/ocean_course.html

This is the first place I ever played in outside of HCMC about almost 2 yrs ago when I first picked up golf. Being a newbie, everything seems great.

Having just had only the 2nd game there yesterday, I can now give a very objective and unbiased report.

Course
It is most definatly not worth the 4 hour drive up just to play there. Patches of cow grass on the fairways, cow grass mixed into the rough. Greens are very average, nothing challenging. It may be Nick Faldo designed, but it is most definatly Vietnamese maintained. On saturday, it started to rain on hole 6 and rain really heavy. We tried looking for a hlafway house or shelter but there was none!. Since we were along hte beach, the wind was incredible and was swirling. There was also lighting. No siren, no warning, no one from teh club came to try and pick up the golfers stuck on the golf course. The best thing was, when we made it back to the club house, we asked the marshalls why no one came out to pick us, and of course they just gave us a blank look on their face.

Club House
L:ocker room is really really small. Imagine there are only 3 shower stalls for EVERYBODY. Small. Really really not worth the time travelling up.

On a seperate note, took us almost 7 hours to get back into the city because it was raining all the way back to HCMC and there were quite a few accidents causing traffic jams.
