| Hi guys, gals A few of us are going for handicap test org by Society of Spore Golfers by end of Jan 2010. We are a bit concerned when we read that in order to pass the test , one needs to attain a score of 45 and below .... As we are real beginners , our scores most likely are going to be more than 45 , are we going to fail ??? So far has anyone fail HCP test before ? I dun wan to be the first to fail ! Hope to hear from u guys soon. Thanks | |

| This is crazy... even our MC plays above 45 at time for 9 holes...
What i understand is that score is not that important... they tend to look out for your golf etiquette, understanding of the rules and ability to play.... Anyway, please take it with a pinch of salt as i have not taken a handicap test before...

| Hi,
I am interested to get my handicap as well. From the website, it is stated that after registering with SSG, members need to attend the USGA Handicap System workshop and Rules of Golf workshop. Any details for the workshop i.e. duration, cost of the workshop etc..? Also, how much does it cost for the courtesy round and green fees?

| Hi Crystal, I had my HC test at OCC, they only tested 4 holes . I didnt hit it well but managed to pass the first time. I think the rules and golf etiquette are more important during the test. Relax and good luck to your test. I'm so tempted to play but need to heal my wrist first. Hopefully can see the sin seh by this week. | |

| Yup, Like what Raquel said, just relax... Rather difficult to get 45 score for 9 holes actually if you just started to play or doesn't play in a regular basis.
Most important one is the basic etiquette like shouting FOREEEEE for wayward balls, raking sand, repair divots, know basic rules etc etc...
Good luck Crystal ! | |

| I thought handicap is 52 for 9 holes? I was told by my instructor golf etiquette is important, you must have the potential to score low...meaning if u unlucky stuck in those MBGC bunkers or OB a few drives or those really bad putting days but generally can strike the ball reasonably well they will pass u.
Also like driving lesson, some actions are immediate failure like hitting the ball before the flight in front is clear.
If almost every shot skull/top/thin/miss/dig a crater but ball travel 20m, then most likely fail.
My instructor ensures me handicap easy to pass one, if you can hit reasonably well.

Thanks dun think too much into it.....what the testers look for are: just make sure u bring your sand bottle along, repair your divots, rake the bunker, repair ball marks on the green, dun play out of turn, answer a few questions on rules/regulations posed by them..... dun kan cheong, dun need to cheong driver, dun need to play par/birdie, bring water, bring balls and most important bring your confidence....

| Hi Crystal, 45 for 9 holes equals to 90 for 18 holes. Although it is not the correct way to calculate handicap, simple calculation would be 90 - 72 = 18. So u pass the test straight away an 18 handicapper SSG really put high standard for their members. | |

| NSRCC Exec is a Par 3 course so you are allowed double bogey for every hole... still not easy but manageable, so don't stress yourself too much... cheers! | |
