PostSubject: Anybody use a 7 wood?   Anybody use a 7 wood? I_icon_minitimeSun Nov 09, 2014 8:08 pm

I wonder why people still use 7 wood these days.  A friend of mine  hits his 5 iron about 160 yards.  And he hits his 7 wood about 170 yards.  As far as I know 7 wood is about 21 degree so it's about the same loft as a 3 iron.   Isn't that a bit short for a club that is longer than a 3 iron?  I know most people can't hit a 3 iron.   But what kind of distances are you getting from a 7 wood compared to your 5 iron?

I am still using 7 wood and I have replaced my 5 iron with 5 hybrid.

My distance are...
7 wood (21 degrees) - 165m
5 hybrid (25 degrees) - 155m

I am like Vinjess' friend; someone who play better with woods than long irons.

Still using trusted old TM 7 wood, 165-170m and easy to launch. Find it much easier to use and longer than hybrid

Half the clubs in my bag are woods. I got 3, 5, 7, 9 & 11 wood. Sad

7w (24deg) = 155m
9w (28deg)= 135m
11w (27deg) = 145m

Personally, as long as it works for u, who cares. My kaki's 7 wood works like a charm for him.
He is 50+ and hits longer than me!

Fairway wood is not accurate on hitting to the green.  It rolls like a roller blade.   But it's ok for 2nd shot on Par 5.

But I'm not a slow swinger....

Disagree with statement. One man's meat is another man's poison. I depend a lot on my woods as my irons really sucks, big time. Very Happy

Irons or woods, who cares! at the end of the game it's the number of strokes that is counted not what you use to achieve it!!

I'm 'similar' except that I use hybrids instead of woods. I have a 3h, 4h, 5h & 6h Smile
