7 Wood? Empty
PostSubject: 7 Wood?   7 Wood? I_icon_minitimeSat Jun 04, 2011 9:14 pm

Seldom see a 7 wood (or i sua gu) but my friend have a very old model 1.

Tried it n find it rather easy to use.

Now thinking of getting 1 also.

But is it advisable? Or it has already been long replace by a 3 or 4 hybrid because I did a comparision n the spec is quite close n hybrid usually more forgiving n easier to use also

Pls advise

Depends on what are your current club's lineup and what distance gap you are trying to fill... I believe 7 woods is for a distance of about 160-180m... So if you already have a club playing to that distance, you should reconsider the club of your choice..

Get a 23* hybrid should pretty much do the same job but easier to use and control... But then there are just people that cun hit hybrids... So have fun trying them out.. Razz

i recall when I started playing golf, there was not much hybrid clubs around... callaway 7 wood (3i replacement) was the life saver for us weekend hackers

some retro pics for those who started golf in that era...

http://www.foundvalue.com/photo/callaway-big-ber-steelhead-7-wood-rch-99-reg-flex-68757

some even went for 9 wood and 11 wood... Panwest was pivotal that time in bringing in these Callaway clubs... Taylormade wasn't huge then... Titleist clubs only pros can handle, cleveland only good with wedges... equipment was expensive (mainly made in USA or Mexico)!

ah... those were the days...

Like what pocketace said, those days, not much hybrids available. My iron shots was not consistent (now still the same, sigh...), so make use of a 7 wood to replace 4 - 5 irons. Like it as it is pretty consistent and it helps me get out trouble a number of times in the rough. So the rest is history..

I am still using it, a Mizuno T-Zoid though I have also included a rescue club into my bad now to get out of the really thick rough..

Actually I suggest you don't follow the number of the hybrid... Rather lookout for the loft... Because a 4H for brand X may not have the same loft as brand Y... And different series of the same number hybrid might also have different loft.

For example if the longest iron you can handle is a 6iron (28*), which can allow u to hit 150m... the hybrid you can consider to replace the 5iron should have a loft around 23*... that hybrid should fill the gap of 170-180m.

I believe that the loft is proportional to distance... So make sure you got the right accenting loft clubs to achieve your desired distance gap... Having said that, of cos the length of the club should also be proportionally spaced.

Talk to a club fitter to sort out your distance gap and club choice... Together with the right shaft, I'll sure you'll find the ideal club to ease your 180m approach.. Very Happy

I use 7wood for fairway bunkers that have a lip of a few inches high, and when you still need to carry 150m/160m. 3-5 iron can do the job,but if there is a lip at the bunker, it will be tough.
Also to "climb" a tree that is blocking you, a 7 wood has a great loft, and distance too.
Heaven wood (Callaway 7 wood) is hard to find. Let me know if you see it at the shop/ sale.

I think it is the "shuttle" model. My friend bought in singapore like a year ago and it is so easy to hit. Don't have to force. Nice easy smooth flowing swing. Let me go steal it from his bag and let you know.
