How far can a 3 wood go?

I'm just wondering what's the average distance for a 3 wood. I've been having a hard time hitting with a 3 wood.

about 15-20 yards less than your driver

or,

10 - 15 yards more than your 5 wood

or,

further than your flightmates' hybrids

Average golfers - 180 -190m?

Not sure how you define 'average'... I think most of us here are pretty 'average'..
(EXCEPT for extraordinaires like Aloyboy, ChrisD, klt8144, guy013, mloy, Begbie etc)

For me at least, who is VERY average, my 3 wood goes about 205-210m, which incidentally, is about 10-15m less than my average drive (about 220m)...

Different brand 3 woods give me different distances. Different time also give me different distances. It all depends on my swing and conditions of my body.

Just like 7i, some can hit it 160m, while some only 120-130m.

There is no fix distance for 3w and ultimately depends on your own swing.

I suggest not to compare your 3w distance with people, just take note of your 3w distance and play your own game. Course management is very important.

Just my 2 cents.

whoopsie.. really got me there! Not sure if i know.. maybe the pros here can help you.. but i think 10-15m shorter than your driver would be a good gauge..

If you hit it well, you will get 80-110M.
This is my average now. I am not 14 by the way.

minimum distance would be 160 yards to 200yards depending on the line.

if its on the tee mount, my 3 wood launches at 220yards plus carry...230 to 240...depending on the ball brand.

Hitting the 3 wood is like hitting your driver. It must be a sweeping approach and not descending blow.

Sheesh ... Hybrid ... your wife uses a 13deg 3 wood and she can launch it 180-190 yards ....

puts me to shame ... I still have not learnt how to launch a 15deg 3 wood ... in fact 13deg is the same loft as my driver ....

i'm worse i haven't even tried a wood so far...nor do i have any idea how to hit one O_O

Think i watch on tv during the earlier Thai tourney michelle wie outdrive a par 4 260+ yard using 3w. But then she's not avg golfer....

I average about 210-220 m with FW 3+ (13 Deg).

Bro HyDriD, glad your wife likes that 2 wood...mmm... I am starting to miss it already,,, esp when I air-shot my current 3-wood.

For those who have problems launching your woods, do consider the Maruman i4000x series (you can try the 7 or 5 wood first if you are worried about the loft of a 2 or 3 wood...easy easy should hit 180-200m for most guys). Super forgiving... if still air-shot, then must use 3-broom already.

On a good hit, my 4 wood gives me 200m. On a bad one, my 4 wood flies out of my hand about 20m.
