I'm planning a weekday golfing day since I'm there on a conference. Only time I have avail is for PM game as the post conference workshop ends at noon. If I'm staying in town (near Pratunam area), which golf courses are more easily accessible from there and allow 1 ball? Most friends recommended Pinehurst (dunno why) but looking to tee off 2-4pm so when I end and come back I won't get caught in the office rush hour. Prefer recommendations where its not so crowded weekday evenings, prob have dinner there before returning to hotel.
On a related topic, does Thai Airways treat golf bags (in travel bag) as your regular luggage allowance? Planning to bring my clubs there. Thanks! Hi Bro Gymrat, Thai Airway treat golf bag as your regular luggage. My advise is don't carry a heavy cart bag if not half of your 20kg will be gone. haha Pinehurst is a nice course and they have night golfing too. I only play once but it was a weekend and very crowded. My favorite BBK course would be Thai Country Club. excellent condition with WIDE fairway .. haha

Hi Nomic I'm planning to play on 5th Nov (Wednesday), but PM game as my meeting ends after lunch. Thinking maybe a late tee off at Pinehurst (or any other nice recommended clubs) so will avoid the rush hour traffic back to town after the game. Don't mind pairing up if you don't mind playing with a not-so good golfer! Drop me a PM to discuss further if you're interested

| Just came back from Bkk. Thought i'd share my experience with you guys. Played Pinehurst on the first day. Tee-ed off at 3pm as its much cheaper. Wouldn't recommend night golf as its been raining almost every afternoon in bkk. the courses are full of mosquitos.. and i'm not exaggerating when I say.. dun breathe through your mouth!!! hahaha. Day golf is fine, but very very hot! remember to apply sunblock, and reapply! or wear some sort of protection.
Mosquito repellents won't work either. Caddies say the mozzies seem to be attracted to the Orange can repellent.(think its called "OFF") Funny thing is, they dun really bite, maybe they're still too small or young to penetrate our skin, but they will definitely try!! Buzzing and darting into our necks and faces!! even the changing rooms are full of mozzies.
Its rains mostly in the afternoons, but mostly passing showers. But it really pours for about an hour everyday. so some courses may be a little soggy.

| So sorry to ruin your morale.
On the bright side, you'd have saved a 40-60min trip (one way) fr the city, about 2000+baht on green fees, caddy and buggy fees, and a whole lot of frustration.
You're much better off playing 36 holes in the day. Most courses open at 5-6am.

Hi Gymrat76. It was my first time playing in bkk, so I'm not the best person to recommend courses. I am merely sharing my experience, hoping that others will not kena bad experiences. Afterall, I'm sure everyone would want to have a pleasant experience and memory fr an overseas game. I played at Pinehurst, Suwan Country Club, Thai Country Club and Alpine. All very nice course. There are many promotions gg on in bkk now, so you may want to call in advance to check the rates and make ur booking. Here's a link that might help: http://www.easygolfbooking.com/packages.asp?location=1 Hope u have a pleasant trip.

| i just got back from BKK and played 2 solo rounds at Royal Bangkok Sports Club which is right in the middle of the city. If you're member of SICC or CSC, you can play there for FREE. Seriously- all you need to do is pay the caddy... which ranges from Thb400-500. it's a little par 66 course.
Usually, i just go there around 5.45am before the sun comes out and will finish by 8.30am. Then head back to the hotel nearby to shower. In the office by 9.30am and boss won't even know.
It's a very friendly club and many of the caddies and marshalls now know me and sometimes, they even allow me to play without the reciprocal letter. Once a friend of mine who's about my height, took my golf bag there and they let him play without checking. When it's still dark, it's hard to tell but the caddies can still see your balls!

I only played night golf at pinehurst. The rest played in the morning. I noticed alot of mozzies on the surface of the water hazards at alpine as well. Guess they only attack at night. Mozzies see with infra-red vision, so we glow bright red/orange to them. Even more visible to them at night. My local fren said that it's usually not this bad. Maybe cus it's been raining almost everyday.

| If anyone want night golf? I think summit windmill also have it. It's very near to city centre as well.
Monsoon season for Thailand is normally from August till October. Best time to golf is november until February. but do take note that day light is shorter then. To play cheap golf in bkk, check out the club sport day, every club have different day for it. If u get it right, can be almost half price for green fee. To make it cheaper, don't take buggy, walk.

| Just got a reply . . .
Thank you for below enquiry. Please note that playing solo is not an option at most nice golf courses in Bangkok. Can you join up with other golfers?

Best regards, Anupong HIRUN www.easygolfbooking.com Alamaka!! So sad!! Bro, i'd give you the same advice my fren gave me. Pick the courses you like. and call them directly. Agents gotta make money somehow. So either from the courses or from the transport. If you're going solo. You can take a cab. Just be sure that you have the number of the golf course you're going to so the cabby can call for directions if he's unsure how to go. The average cab fare should cost about 3 -400 baht. we chartered a mini-van that cost us 2000baht a day from 7am - 7pm. abit pricey, but saved us the hassle of taking separate cabs as most cabs in bkk have the CNG tank in the boot than can only take 1 golf bag. The question is.. how are you going to get back. haha. maybe you can ask the receptionist to help you call a cab after your round. i'm not too sure how that works. maybe someone else here can help advice. If i'm not wrong, I think Nov is the peak period for golf in bkk. maybe that's why the agent said they might not allow 1 ball. Good luck!

| If can charter a Van for 2000B for 12 hour use my advice is go ahead rather then take Taxi, Not all Taxi driver know how to go to any golf course (what happen if they lost the way and delay your Tee time or bla bla bla? It happen very common. You will panic if the reception tell you no Taxi want to come to the course especially if you end your game in the evening.
2000B for 12 hrs use is consider good price IMHO.

| Yeah.. I agree.. its safer to charter some sort of transportation. Most courses are located in the outskirts. Most cab drivers won't know how to go. or they may go in circles to let the meter run to make more money. Also a very good point is no cab might wanna pick u up after the game.
We paid 2000B for 12 hrs.. as well as tolls. He'll arrive with a full tank and he'll top up the tank at the end up the day which we will pay. We also use him to bring us around.. shopping and makan after the game. and he'll wait for us... one phone call.. and he'll be there within minutess to pick us up.
2000B is for a minvan than can sit 10 pax (excluding golf bags). maybe someone here might have lobang to charter a Car since you gonna be alone. Unless you have deep pockets. If you need the number for the van, pm me and i'll get it for u.
