Distance gained is a good thing, but 185m to the right or to the left is not exactly desired  ROFL  ROFL

So be it an individual can grind out 185m with a 7i or 120m with a driver, but isn't golf all about accuracy, technique and sportsmanship rather than DISTANCE….

SIGH, let it rest guys…  Beer

My vote goes to this thread for being the most exciting thread of the week.
Now the question is if akira has putters. I would like one that does >40ft putts. Will be eternally grateful. *guarantee on performance will be a bonus.

OK, let's keep things in check.

I think it's good to have a pro share his thoughts with us. JasonLoong, perhaps provide some tips on how we can gain distance but at the same time, be more consistent with our shots. I guess this deserves a new thread and will let him start one if needed.

Technopaz, you're asking a golf coach to share his tips here for free? How is he going to make a living?

The best way to learn how to hit 185m with a 7i is to go to him and sign up for lessons.

That, in case anyone has missed it so far, is the subtle marketing objective in making such a claim in a golf forum.

How about a 400+ yard Akira driver (remote to stick the ball on the fairway after every tee off & batteries sold separately)….  flower  Boy, would I love to get my hands on that  Swing

To a distance of 185m (carrry) with a 7i is definitely not impossible for PGA Tour Pro ... However, this distance is almost impossible for most mortal social golfers to achieve under "normal circumstances ... To put things in perspective, Bubba Watson can hit a 8i to a distance of 204 yards (about 185m) ... It was reported when he tried to prove a point to his caddy while he was leading in Houston Open in 2007 ... He is a very adventurous and high risk taking golfer ... That is why he can be as exciting to watch as Tiger Woods ...

Coming back to the subject matter, it could be possible for a good social player to achieve this distance with 7i only if a combination of the following happens -

1) The clubhead sweet spot flushes against the ball;
2) Strong tail wind;
3) Tee off from an elevated ground;
4) Playing in a High Altitude course where the air is very thin;
5) Golfer has very high swing speed and adopts the right iron play technique
6) Strong lofted 7i;
7) Using a premium ball suitable for his swing speed

Having said that, we may have to give Pro Jason the benefit of the doubt first till we witness how he hits the various clubs to achieve the distances that he mentioned here ...

Cheers,
MaXx

witness..... There's quite a few witnesses in the range itself. There's a group of 15 regulars that goes to the range every morning or sometimes afternoon. They'll tell you themselves. I don't see the facination in hitting that far. But then again , it helps alot with long par 4 or 5s.

There's a couple of top amateur players who has tried my set as well. Not sure if you've heard of them. Johnson Poh and Lion Goh is one of them few.

Ultimately, I think it's still your swing; follow by the clubs that compliment your swing.
I would love to pick up some ball striking tips from you.

Akira 7 iron loft 28 deg
Mizuno mp64 5 iron loft 27deg
Shaft Length 0.75inch different

A typical weekend hacker most likely cannot hit a typical brand 5 iron loft 27deg consistently, in this case how to play the Akira 7 iron and so on...

Just thinking out loud

This is very true especially if an average Joe does not have the necessary swing speed to optimize the launch angle ... He'll likely find that he has not much distance gap between his 7i and his 8i or worse, 9i ...

I think club evolution will reach a point they will label drivers as 7 irons. And all irons become wedges. Gap wedges used to be called pitching wedge. Ben hogans 4 iron is today's 6 iron.

Or cynics would just call for numbers be taken away, just label lofts like wedges. Imagine the conversations in future.

"What did you hit?"

"I hit a six , I mean a 24 degree. You?"

" oh I hit a 8, I mean 18 degree, hmmmmm. Weird hor these numbers............, does that mean I am more macho or you are more macho?"

Yup, I'm asking him to share his tips for free. Well, I'm inviting him to do so anyway.

What's the harm in sharing tips online, especially in a golf forum? Most, if not all, of the pros here do so. Besides, the real coaching comes on the range and in the course, and only after having met the student etc. Really, if a golf coach can improve one's golf by merely passing on tips online, that would be astounding!

If any coach believes that they will lose their livelihood by providing tips on a golf forum, that's somewhat naive. Heaven knows how those pros on the Golf Channel survive then.

i think this thread managed to reach 4 pages is because the first post is too vague. if the first post shows the increase of distance for each club, it would be clearer that Jason is already hitting longer than most of us.

and if equipment review is this short, honestly it is not really a review.

Chop meat and season, make ball.
Throw everything into a pot with lots of tomato.

It's not inconceivable that Jason hits his irons that long.

Consider the following factors:

1) Being a pro, his core strength is probably way above that of us who spends several hours with our asses in an office chair. We'd be fooling ourselves to think we can even come close to their regular distances.

2) The chart distances used as examples previously are the tour averages, of which are calibrated for accuracy more than ultimate distance. Lest we forget, they swing at 80% for control.

In a recent Golf Digest article, Ernie Els PW average distance is 121.5m. If he swings at 100%, that would translate to 145.8m. Not so unbelievable a distance now is it?

3) Throw in the equipment factor of stronger lofts and longer shafts as mentioned before, it really isn't surprising that Jason can claim those distances.

Two questions though...

How many pros, let alone amateurs, have you heard of playing the Akira Vintage Golds?

With all due respect to Jason, if he's hitting those amazing distances consistently and accurately, wouldn't he be better served cleaning up on tour rather than teaching?  scratch
