Dave, do you also carry a 3W and a 4i? TS, I used to. Took them out since it's just a waste of club quota. When I get tired I can't hit either of them. When I'm fresh I rarely can hit them well... ha ha

But yes, WITB for me is Driver, 3h,4h, 5i-9i, pw, gw, sw, lw and a sc. 13 clubs. Still can fit in one more....

| Wah... PW, GW, SW, LW? So many Ws The strange thing is that I don't use any of the MX-300 Wedges. I have my own CGs which I'm comfortable with but that's another story. So you have the 3H and 4H. Both MX-700s? | |

So you have the 3H and 4H. Both MX-700s? Ha ha... different purpose and distance ma for the wedges. Pw is for 100ish, gw is for 90ish, sw is for 70mish and doing chipping., lw is to lob it and 60mish As for my hybrids... 3h is the MX-700. Loving this. 4h is the R7 draw. Quite a solid rescue club too. This was used to be my 2nd club in the distance wise since I don't carry woods... Maybe... just maybe will add 5h.... Sounds so pro, but if only my game is as good as my clubs.... You're comfortable with your 4W draw ?

| Yup, comfortable (relatively) with my G10 4W Draw. Nice club and easy to play (if I'm in the right frame of mind). | |

| I use only irons while playing. It is only recently that I've tried out my frd's hybrid that made me realised how good is it..
OK, my qn is : What replace what?

| Technically speaking,
5W = 2 hybrid/iron 7W = 3 hybrid/iron 9W = 4 hybrid/iron 11W = 5 hybrid/iron
But of course there are those wierd manufactures that have a "bridge" club at 19.5 degrees. They claim that it replaces the 2 iron/2 hybrid and 7W. Incidentally, this was the club that helped a particular Irish pro win the 2008 PGA Championship.

Here's where i always get confused.. for most manufacturers, the 3H = 19* and 4H = 22* which makes it very closed to 5W = 18* and 7W = 21* respectively. So shouldn't the 3H = 5W and 4H = 7W technically? Appreciate some enlightenment here.

Appreciate some enlightenment here. Woods shaft are generally longer hence more distance comparatively even though the loft is similiar

| Bono, woods give more distance to their equivalent numbered hybrids. Equal lofts don't equate to equal distances, not always anyways. | |

| my understanding is hybrids are more of a long iron replacement, so hence the nomenclature is closer linked to irons and their lofts. Woods have longer shaft so compared with a hybrid of similiar loft, the distance resulting from hitting both perfectly would still be different, with the woods capable of more distance over a similiar loft-ed hybrid | |

| Thanks kyleyann & chemicalpro.. understood.
This means that if I have a 20* - 3H and a 15* - 3W, what is supposed to go nicely in between should be a 5W or 2H to fill the distance gap ya?

| As everyone is confused about what is replacing what, probably you just stick to what you have and try to bridge the gap if you need the hybrid or replacement.
Lets say for me, since the biggest gap is from my driver which range around 200-220m to the 2nd longest which is my 4h which is giving me 165m-ish, so it's a easy for me to get 3h to get 175-180m range. Maybe I could get 2i/h which is roughly giving me 190m, but that's another story.
I think don't get confused on 5w to be replaced by 3i/h or 2h/i. Just think what's missing in your game and you'll be fine...

| NP bono! Well it would depend if you need something to bridge these 2 distance gaps. If your 3wood goes 220m and 3hybrid goes 200m, the 20m in between could be bridge by a club which goes 210m. But you gotta ask yourself if you need this pin point accuracy of +-10m from 200m out. Personally I carry a 15° 3wood and a 18° 2hybrid. I still play from the white tee and so far I don't normally have to play these clubs unless on long par 5s which I'm attempting to reach in 2. What I carry instead is an extra wedge for 120m and down shots. But yeah, if you're looking to bridge the long shots, fit in the 2hybrid | |

| Glad I got this out of my system. Thanks all for the advice.
I carry a 4H, 3H and 3W. I usually use my 3W for tee offs in tight fairway conditions or when my driver is wayward on that day. Rarely would I pull it out on the fairway for a 2nd shot.
I do not drive long, only about 200m whilst my 3H can do about 170-180m. Looks like current setup is good enough for me till my drives are further.
And yes! Agreed that +/- 10m would not make much difference to my game now.

| *cackle* I think we can summarize that hybrids are very useful if you find difficulty using the long irons BUT if you have trouble with your swing, using a hybrid won't make too much of a difference. Fix the swing first | |

| Woah! Cannot be lah. If 3 hybrid goes 200m, 3 wood goes 220m, then something wrong liao! The numbers don't chalk up... Will probably need to relook the clubs setup. Bono: I would suggest going to the launch monitor. I think that's a good place to know the yardages for your clubs. Range distance is sometimes not accurate and our eyes tend to deceive us. Try going to a launch monitor to know your distances. My personal experience: I used to think my 9 iron and PW goes same distance - 100m. I went to the launch monitor and it consistently read 10m more on my 9 iron - 110m. Another example: I gauged my 4H about 165 - 175m. I went to the launch monitor and it registered 155m carry to 170m with roll. - chemicalpro wrote:
