hitting a 7 iron and 7 wood

Technical is there any different BTW 7 iron and 7 wood? Especially for the setup and ball position? My wife complain that I replace her 7 iron with 7 woods.

7 wood is more like 5 iron and longer.

7 iron ball position mid to 1 ball behind of stance (I.e centre of chest), woods nearer to the left chest. Swing thought: irons (hit the turf in front of the ball to hit the ball first), woods (bottom of club brushing the ground just before the ball)

Other than the above responses, comparing a 7w and 7i is so different, like chalk and cheese

The lofts are different, length of club is different and the clubs serve different purpose in terms of distance to be covered

I don't think you can technically replace a 7i with 7w and vice versa

One thing's for sure, my 7i does not go as far as my 7w. Besides, my 7i is not as striking as my 7w Very Happy

Swing is the same but stance / spine alignment setup is whole different ball game

She also have tendency to overswing. Anything to change this

I don't think you should think of brushing the ball off the ground for the fairway woods but instead hit down on the ball on your woods too especially a 7 wood.

Based on trackman data for the LPGA tour, most of them hit down on their 7 wood more than their irons. Of course dynamic loft and other things come into picture, but I think you must not think of brushing the ball off the ground for your fairway woods.

The link also shows the difference between a 7w and 7i.
Spin rates and launch angles are higher on the 7i meaning they will not run out as easily.
Swingspeed is also higher on a 7w which I think is due to the longer length of the wood.
