Golf Ball Fitting?

Does anyone know anything about Golf Ball Fitting and how to go about deciding which golf ball suits your play best?

Been trying out a few brands and ball types but cannot get a clear idea or feel as to what to look out for and which might suit best.

Any help/advice is appreciated!

webfitting is usually a good place to start. Just go online to the respective manufacturers' sites and  key in some info and the system will recommend a ball that supposedly suits you. i know that srixon and bridgestone has this. while you are there, you can also read up on the specs on the manufacturer's webpage, which will describe the qualities of the ball and what kind of player it was made for.

after that, it's just a matter of trial and error on the course. But u need to know what you are looking for. eg. do u prefer softer feeling balls, do you want your ball to check up for approach shots, do you want more distance etc etc. then just see which ball performs closest to your expectations

The other way is to grab a few sleeves of different balls, and find a pro / club fitter with a trackman. that way you can see the exact stats for each ball. this of course assumes you have a reasonably consistent and repeatable swing. Otherwise the difference in stats may just be a result of your swing rather than the ball  

if you are a beginner / high hc, i would recommend trying the Srixon AD333. This is an all-round good-performing ball.
If you are a mid hc, then you should consider a multilayered ball with a urethane cover. this will give you more control on your approach shots and around the green. I personally like the Callaway Tour IS, but it's an old model which has been discontinued.

Yep, am considering looking for someone with a trackman to see if I can get some numbers. (: Will look online at the different webfittings as well.

Titleist also has golf ball fitting on the website.

Isn't trial n error on actual course the best way to see if u prefer how the way the ball react on the green? I loved to try new different balls to see which one is the value for money ball in terms of performance.

Yep I agree that trial and error is probably the most common method used. But I love my stats and I'm looking for a bit more certainty in measurement. There are also too many other factors in play during a round, like how you feel that day etc.

I'm wondering if there are any criteria that you use when you do your trial and error?
I've been thinking about it and can come up with a few;

1. How the ball reacts when it comes out of a greenside bunker
2. Distance between initial landing point and where the ball rests
3. Percentage of ball flight and landing spot in relation to the shot you envisioned
4. Ability to judge distance and speed of putt

Yes I agreed on your point 1 to 3. Point 4 is more about personal ability (ability to read the green and experience on the course).
For me, I also look at balls with lesser driver spin (driver spin reduce distance) and greenside spin to promote control for chips n putt.

i only recently started experimenting with different types of balls. i personally look out for (i) ability to check and stop for short iron - wedge approach shots, (ii) feel - not too hard or too soft, and (iii) distance off the tee.

i tried the srixon Q and Z star, bridgestone e5, titleist nxt tour & prov1, tm penta TP3, and liked the callaway tour-is the best.

If you are a beginner, you can buy a bag or two of mixed second hand good quality balls and try out at the course. After a while I think it'd be quite obvious which one suits you best. It'd be the one that feels great when you hit it and behaves the way you expect it to after that. I guess once you know which one you can then focus on it and develop a more intimate 'relationship' with it.

I second that Bro SC. Could not have agreed more that Callaway Tour-i(s) is very good overall indeed.
